One of my favourite modern artists is Giorgio Morandi. ‘Morandi was an Italian painter and printmaker known for his simple, contemplative still lifes of bottles, jars, and boxes. He was born on July 20, 1890 in Bologna, Italy, and he died on June 18, 1964 in Bologna’. [Source]
Take a look at some of his images:
- What kind of lines is Morandi using?
- What is Morranding doing with his lines to give you a sense of depth?
- What does he do when he wants to show highlights?
Project:
Set up a still life of 3-5 objects from what I have put on the table, objects that you think look good together.
In your sketchbook I want you to try and make a few line drawings of the still life. Don’t be afraid to reposition objects from one sketch to the next. Then on a piece of drawing paper, I will give you, I want you to add value via overlapping lines.
