OK, In class this morning I am going to have you Reflect on who you are-  All those features and traits that make up you.

A big task?  Yes… but let’s be Courageous! and do our best.

I don’t care if it’s realistic or not- That is NOT THE POINT!

I want images by YOU that reflect, through; Line, Colour, Emotion, words, collage, mixed-media, the totality of who you think you are.

Stuck?

Ask yourselves:

Do I have empathy for everyone in my school and in our community?

Do I think positively because there’s a solution to every problem?

Do I embrace our differences?

Am I responsible and own up to my actions and choices? I am I aware of the consequences of my actions?

Do I adjust to change and step out of my comfort zone the daily life experience I encounter?

Do I recognize that there’s always something for which to be thankful?

Am I engaged, supportive and actively participate in our community, in school, and in my own life?

Now think about the words and images that most vividly came to mind as you answered the questions.

  1. Write, or draw, them down on your piece of paper.
  2. Fill the paper with words and images.
  3. Use anything that you find on the long middle table to express the emotions or characteristics of your thoughts.
  4. Once the page is full draw you face over top.
  5. Once done, go back into the paper and try to integrate, or blend, all the work together into a work of art which shows who you are on the inside and out.

At the end of the period:

  • Sign your name on the front.
  • Print your name on the back.
  • At the end of the class, I will have you pin your Self-portrait up in the display cabinet outside my room.
  • Oh, and there will be NO talking or cellphones during this period…this is important
