Read p. 493-501 (DNA Transcription and Translation) and try out the “test yourself” questions beginning on p. 501.

Test 1 October – be sure to study Cell, Cell organelles/functions, Biological Molecules and DNA replication (p. 490-493 in text and notes up to and including last class).

Continue reading Chapters 2 and 24 (DNA) and focus on DNA replication, transcription and translation.  We will be covering these topics next week.

Reminder of the test on Cell and Biological Molecules on 2 October.

Finish reading biological molecules (Ch. 2) and begin reading Ch. 24 on DNA Replication, etc.

Answer the question given in class:  Explain how structure is related to function in nucleic acids.

Find one example of each of the following, giving the proper name (eg. Hemoglobin, glucose, cholesterol, etc), structure (draw a diagram) and the function in cells/living things:  Carbohydrate, lipid, protein.

Be sure to review the online notes (see my earlier blog post for the link) on nucleic acids.

Read p. 31 + on Biological Molecules and make note of the key points for the 4 classes:  Carbohydrates, Proteins, Lipids, and Nucleic Acids.  Also note the key points relating to synthesis and hydrolysis reactions.
