Read 4.1 in textbook (cell structure and organelles, the nucleus, DNA).
Make a list of the cell organelles and give a brief function.
Complete science handout given in class.

Please watch the following videos on your own time:
Water: A polar molecule, Bozeman Science (8:40 mins)
Crash Course: Water – Liquid Awesome (11:20 mins)
Nature of science, Bozeman Science (8 minutes)
Mitosis and Meiosis, Bozeman Science (13:40 minutes)
How to use a microscope (26 minutes)
Complete the cell parts/organelles chart/diagrams handout. We will go over this together in class.
Complete the first column of the Biological Molecules chart (list the elements found in the type of molecule listed).

Optional:

Crash Course: Water – Liquid Awesome (11:20 mins)
Complete the cell parts/organelles chart/diagrams handout. We will go over this together in class.
Using the information in chapter 7, complete to the best of your ability the DNA handout (A – D).
Continue your reading of chapters 3-4. Aim to finish these chapters (using the chapter 2 outline, if helpful) by 29 September (next Friday).
Please read p. 10-13 and know the WHMIS and other hazard symbols.
Read section 4.1 in chapter 4 (reproduction.)
Read p. 10 – 13 in textbook, and study the WHMIS and other hazard symbols. We will have a mini-quiz on this next class (know the symbols and their names).
Also, read p. 118 – 124 (biology) in textbook.
Read sections 2.1 – 2.3 (molecules of the cell). Use the outline and summary found here. Use this resource and fill in the blanks while you read. We will complete the homeostasis mind map in class.
Research the organelle you were assigned: Function of the organelle, general location within the cell, basic structure of the organelle. You will have a few minutes to get organized at the start of next class with your partner(s), and then will share the above information with the class (briefly, all group members must participate).
Read chapter 2 (which is partly covered by our chapter outline from last class). We will start working on microscopy soon, so please pay close attention to that section.
Research the organelle you were assigned: Function of the organelle, general location within the cell, basic structure of the organelle. You will have 10 minutes to get organized at the start of next class with your partner(s), and then will share the above information with the class.
