Biology 11 Martin 7 January 2013

Work on the questions from class on Viral/Bacterial disease and produce a diagram, written points, or paragraph descriptions (your choice) to describe how the body responds to and protects itself from viral/bacterial diseases, what parts/functions of the immune system are related to prevention of and response to viral/bacterial disease, and what we can do to minimize infection.  You may wish to consult chapters 17 and 45, and/or other sources.

Also, be sure you are studying for the mid-year exam, which will take place during the week of 27 Jan 2013 – 1 Feb 2013.  It will cover everything since the unit 1 exam.

Science 10 Martin 17 Dec 2012

Begin the reading of Section 7.1 in the textbook.  You may begin working on workbook section 7.1, also.

Moodle quiz on Ch. 6 is open again for those of you who did not remember to do it (yes, it is for marks).  You may have unlimited attempts until 11:59pm on Tuesday, 18 Dec.

Also, it may be of benefit to you to visit the government website and attempt some of the sample Provincial exams.  Please go to www.gov.bc.ca/bced and select “Provincial exams” and follow the prompts to find sample exams and keys for all Provincially examinable courses.

Science 9 Martin 17 and 18 Dec 2012

Complete workbook section 8.1.

Do questions 1-8 on p. 279.

Remember to work on project – video will be due on 22 January 2013.  Be sure to include the following:

– Hypothesis (if/then statement)

– Purpose/Overview (what were you trying to find out? What did you do?)

– Observations/Results/Findings (what did you find out? what happened?)

– Conclusion (what science concept have you learned about?  what did your project tell you? do you reject your hypothesis? why or why not?)

(A note about your hypothesis:  A hypothesis cannot be said to be “true.”  You can either “reject” the hypothesis (if the results contradict it, for example) or “fail to reject” the hypothesis (if the results seem to support it.)  You cannot say that you “accept” the hypothesis, only that it was either rejected or not rejected.)

– What would you do differently if you were to do this project again?

You can speak or have text on the screen.  Be brief and organized (have a script written out that you read from, for example.)  Speak clearly and slowly.  Be sure the video is at least 1 minute long and no more than 5 minutes long.

The video will be uploaded to Youtube and you will submit the link to me in Moodle.
