Study WHMIS and Scientific Method, as well.

Finish the red blood cell labelled diagram (using p. 99-102 in text) showing the effects of a high concentration solution and low concentration solution. Hint: Think of where water is most concentrated, which is usually opposite to where the solute is more concentrated. Make sure the diagram is neat and well done, and demonstrates that you understand osmosis and concentration gradient.

Safety test will be on Tuesday.  Be sure you know the WHMIS symbols and safety rules (see chapter 1 and the reference section in your textbook, and look at online resources if needed).

Be sure you are comfortable with the content of chapter 5.

Research Lynn Margulis, endosymbiont hypothesis and autogenic hypothesis. What evidence exists that supports these hypotheses?

Optional workbooks are available for $15.

Research:  How did eukaryotic cells evolve? What are some theories on that?  Jot down a few notes for yourself and be prepared to discuss.

Read and take notes on 5-4 to 5-6 in the textbook.

Bring safety contract (signed) if you haven’t already.

Take notes on cell/cell organelles (5-1 to 5-3 in text) and bring to class.

Finish poster on organelle/cell part and be prepared to present it (briefly) to the class at the start of class. No additional time can be given in class to complete the posters. Be sure to list references on the back.

 

Finish the Scientific Method handout and come prepared to class with a biology topic that is of interest to you.

Finish the plants handout and the brainstorming of ideas on plant evolution (Land, tissues, seed, flower staircase).

Final Exam will cover (to varying degrees) the following chapters:

1-10, 13-18, 21, 22, 25, 26-33, 47-49

Some chapters were only covered very generally, or only a small portion was covered.  Please look over the chapter and let me know if you have questions on what content we covered.  Also study your workbook and your notes, handouts, assignments, etc.

An optional 8.5″ X 11″ study sheet is permitted in the exam.  It must meet the following criteria or you will not be permitted to use it during the exam:

1. Hand written by you
2. Double sided is okay
3. Not photocopied, printed, or have any components that are photocopied or printed (eg. printed diagrams pasted on it)
4. Must be legible with the unaided eye (no magnifying glasses or other magnifying devices may be used!)
5. Must pass inspection on the day of the exam

Finish kidney lab questions and review/reading.

Research frog anatomy  and draw labelled diagrams of the following systems on unlined paper:

1. Digestive system
2. Circulatory system
3. Respiratory system
4. Urogenital system

Please use pencil. The use of coloured pencils is fine and may be helpful.

Finish the fish respiration handout.

Read text and workbook sections on Phylum Chordata, and complete the worksheets (Mollusks and Echinoderms, Arthropods, Crustaceans, Vertebrates).
