Please work on the taxonomy worksheet and be sure to have read the textbook section on Classification (ch. 15).

Take notes on classification (not for handing in) from pages 319 – 329 in the textbook.

Study for the DNA/RNA test, Wednesday, 30 Oct 2013. Be sure to understand DNA/RNA structure, as well as the processes of replication, transcription and translation.

Test on DNA/RNA structure, Proteins, DNA replication, transcription and translation will be on Wednesday, 30 October.

Work on the DNA review sheet. Not for handing in, but highly recommended in order to help with your understanding of this section.
You should also have read the applicable textbook sections.

Bring cutouts of nucleotides to work with in class. Finish the cutting at home and try to construct the molecules as per the information given in class.
Bring with you the “functions of proteins” homework assigned 2 blocks ago, as well as completed p. 156 true/false and multiple choice questions.

Study for the Evolution Test – Ch. 13 and 14 – Thursday, 17 Oct 2013.
Look up the functions of proteins in the cell and in the multicellular organism (assigned last week).
Also, work on the Nucleic acids 3-page worksheet.

Finish the “Cell Regulation” worksheet by completing the amino acid sequence (use google to find the structure pictured) and finding the mRNA codons that may code for that particular sequence (use table 7-17 in your textbook). Evolution test will be on 17 October 2013.

Please work on the Cell Regulation worksheet (on DNA and protein synthesis) using the text. Aim to do sections A and B and we will go over together in class.

Answer the questions for homework that were assigned in class:
1. describe the basic structure of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) with reference to the following terms:
a. – double helix
b. – sugar-phosphate backbone
c. – nitrogenous bases (A, T, C, G)
d. – complementary base pairing (A-T, C-G)
