Science 10 Global Warming project

The purpose of this project is to give an example of global warming’s effect on the environment in a specific area, a particular species, or a community. You will choose an example (teacher approved) and explain how global warming has affected the subject that you chose. For example, if you chose an animal species (such as polar bears), you would explain exactly what about global warming has affected them, and how. Is it the temperature of the water? The melting of the ice? If so, what was the effect of that factor, in particular, on the polar bears? Does it reduce their food supply (prey) and thus reduce numbers of bears? Does it impact their reproduction or the survival of their young? Does it affect their bodies/physiology in some way that makes it harder for them to survive? Is it causing habitat loss? Be specific.

It would be good to give us a bit of information about the subject that you chose (eg. if it is polar bears, be sure to give the species, range (where they are found), what they eat, how many young they have each year, and any other important information; or if you chose a particular ecosystem or location (such as the Galapagos Islands, for example), give its location, what grows/lives there, what is the landscape (mountains, desert, plains, coastline, etc), what are the normal conditions (hot, humid, dry, cold, lots of precipitation, etc), and so on.

The presentation should be 1-2 minutes long.

There is no research paper due, but you must produce a poster (blocks 1-1 and 2-3) or digital presentation (block 1-3). Include all references used.

Mini Science 10 1-3 31 March 2016

Following today’s presentations on severe weather, research/study the atmospheric factors and/or conditions that influence weather. These include air pressure, temperature, humidity, winds, air masses, Earth’s rotation, etc.

Focus on asking yourself what atmospheric factors influence weather, and how.

Be sure you have completed the reading of chapter 10.

Science 10 1-1 Martin 31 March 2016 and 2-3 1 April 2016

Severe weather event – Research the severe weather event you chose and do a 1-2 minute presentation next class.

Find the date, location, “name” of the event (if applicable) and type of event; explain the effect on the environment/communities, etc; explain the CAUSE(S) of this type of weather event (ie. what is happening in the atmosphere, oceans, etc, to bring about this type of severe weather event?)

Prepare a poster presentation of the above information. Be sure everyone in the group takes an equal part in the presentation. Include reference and group member names on the BACK of the poster paper.

Be sure you have read all of chapter 10 and completed all of chapter 10 workbook sections (assigned earlier).
