Weekly check-in (“attendance”) – reminder to reply via email by Thursday, attendance will be entered into MyEd at the end of each week; your reply to me can be a simple emoji, gif, meme, a simple hello – I will reply back with a thumbs up (“like”) response to let you know I have checked you off for attendance; if you don’t receive a thumbs up from me (within 24 hours) it means I have not received your email check-in. Thank you to those of you who have replied with some creative items!
Please note that this week’s assignment will most likely be the last one, as this will ensure that you will have the time and flexibility to not only complete it but also to address any other assignments that you may still need to complete or update. We are most likely looking at the end of the month as the final opportunities to submit any work, so that student marks can then be finalized. Your observations in your Digital Portfolios can still be ongoing.
Remember to submit assignments on TEAMS as well as including them in your Course Digital Portfolio!
For those of you (yes there are some believe it or not!) who are looking for more to do, feel free to explore some of the topics and assignments from the other courses listed here (this week’s or previous weeks’); do keep in mind that your final self assessments will be coming soon as well.
Also remember that the nature of the soft and hard deadlines for these assignments are designed to afford students flexibility in time management and varying circumstances – if you encounter extenuating challenges beyond this, send me a communication so that we find find ways to address these. Above all, be reassured as I expressed in last week’s post that your TERM 2 cumulative mark will serve as a provisional final mark for the year and that all work presented in Term 3 is simply an opportunity for students to improve their mark before the final mark is arrived at (this is especially important for any student who for whatever reason found themselves below a PASS for Term 2).
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email me!
Please be well & stay safe!

Assignments for Week of MAY 11:
All courses: continue making your ongoing observations/questions/thoughts on the current health crisis situation in your Digital Portfolios; as well, all students will have until approximately the end of May to submit any work for Term 3 (online learning assignments) not already submitted.
GEO12 – The link to the article you need is listed here as well as on MOODLE (right after your Digital Portfolios)
Once the current health crisis resolves and economies re-start, will we continue the same habits of consumption and production? Read the article from this accompanying link as a starting point regarding new uses for AR (Augmented Reality) technology, but don’t confine yourself to just what the article focuses on. Share your thoughts, with some supporting details from either your direct observations (and hopefully some photos), or from researching online and providing examples from sources.
Format for submission: student choice but preferably with minimum one visual
Due Date: May 18 (soft deadline)/May 25 (hard deadline)
PEPS12 – With various governments providing economic aid in their countries, another important debate has arisen that overlaps Economics, Politics and Philosophy: should economic assistance from government focus on the consumer (in essence so that citizens have the ability to be a consumer and buy things), or should that emphasis be on the producers (in essence businesses and producers so that citizens have something to consume and buy)? You may need to do a little research online (please cite any sources) to explore different thoughts and perspectives on this. Share your thoughts and findings in well though-out and coherent manner.
Format for submission: student choice
Due Date: May 18 (soft deadline)/May 25 (hard deadline)
Bonus: view the link on exercising rights versus freedoms. Keep in mind this comes from an American context. After viewing this short clip, share your thoughts. link: https://twitter.com/i/status/1259177413331820544
SS10M – The current health crisis has forced all societies to re-examine their foundations and principles that are deemed essential. Based on your observations (you may need to do a little online research to supplement your observations if you have not been able to explore much – please cite sources), what would you propose as FIVE ESSENTIAL HUMAN RIGHTS? For each of your proposed essential rights, include a situation that has arisen from the current health crisis that would support your point. This can be reaffirming what we already consider essential human rights, or perhaps there are new perspectives on what should be deemed essential.

SS8M – In our course we have seen important figures and roles in society, using the past and history as context. Looking at our society NOW, and especially in light of the current health crisis, share your thoughts on a role today that has been undervalued previously but has been shown to be an essential role in our society today. Include the past (undervalued) perception of that role including your argument that shows it was undervalued and details on how that role changed/gained importance as a result of recent times.
Format for submission: student choice with visuals where possible preferably
Due Date: May 18 (soft deadline)/May 25 (hard deadline)
LEAD10 – There is no doubt that due to what has been revealed by the current health crisis that a return to the “old normal” simply won’t be possible, at least not until an effective vaccine is available. With regards to schools – everything from classes to extracurriculars – what do you think might be the “new normal“? Share your thoughts with detail and your rationale on at least TWO areas (no maximum limit so if this intrigues you explore as many areas as you wish). A suggested place to start might be to think of at least two areas of the school that you yourself are involved in, and think of how this is going to be different.
