  1. Prepare for the Socratic Circle Discussion: Fill in the sheet with notes & ideas from ALL 4 readings (“Totem”, “Lament for Confederation”, “I Am Graffiti” and “Apology Day”) AND the apology videos on the last post.  Be thorough, creative, and thoughtful.  The sheet will be collected after your discussion.
  2. Satire – good copy – MLA set up – name, etc., typed, double spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pt font, titled, etc.

ENGLISH 9 – 2.1

HOMEWORK: Due Thurs

  1. Notebook – will be collected. Make sure you’ve updated the Table of Contents, completed the Journals & worksheets, and glued in all the sheets.
  2. In-class Writing Test – Topic: Discuss your top 3 values. Here’s a link of common core values for you to consider— click here —> List of Core ValuesRemember you already wrote on this topic for Journal #1.  You can use those ideas, but make the writing and discussion better!
  3. Preparation for the In-Class Writing Test –-Use the Journal Response Outline I gave you to prepare NOTES ONLY for the in-class write.  Go through all the work we’ve done to ensure you understand all the elements of a good 3 paragraph essay.  Review the Writing Rubric I gave you and the Peer Editing Checklist, so you know what I will be looking for in your essay. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, prepare the Journal Response Outline with notes of what you want to write about, the order of your points, examples & evidence you want to use and any other info/notes to help you.  You don’t want to get stuck trying to think of good ideas; you want to use the time to show me how well you know how to use the writing structure we’ve been working on.

ENGLISH 11 – 1.3/2.2

HOMEWORK: Due THURS/FRI

  1. Satire – 2nd draft – add, delete, improve your ideas.  Type it & print it off.
  2. Journal #5 – – “Totem” – Satire – What is Thomas King satirizing in the story “Totem”?  Are his criticisms valid or fair?  Explain your opinion.  King is discussing issues of stereotyping and race, is satire an appropriate way to discuss such sensitive subjects?  Why or why not?  
  3. Additional Readings – “Lament for Confederation” & “Graffiti” & “Apology Day” – read, highlight, make notes AND DO the Qs!  Be prepared to discuss and analyze the readings next class in your small groups.  This will be in preparation for a full class discussion activity on Mon/Tues. of next week.

  1.  “I Am Here Today Because I Am Gay” speech – read, do Qs, prep for reading quiz, and do your 1 Lit Circle Role sheet.
  2. IF YOU WERE ABSENT, you’re missing 2 pages from the speech. Come by and get them and/or contact someone who was in class to get a picture or something of the 2 pages so you can do your homework. AND you need to hand in your Good copy Journal AND you’re Lit Circle Evaluation ASAP!
  3.
