ENGLISH 11 – 1.2/2.2

HOMEWORK: Due Tues/Wed

  1. SOCRATIC CIRCLE Discussion- the discussion is based on the 4 readings & story “Totem” – all Aboriginal focused readings 
  2. Narrative Presentations – we’ve finished the next 3 stories, so time for part 2 presentations: Conflict, POV, Other Techniques Pt. 1.  Get started, you’ll be going next week on Mon/Tues
  3. Block 1.2 – many of you mentioned that you didn’t properly prepare for the discussion & would like another chance. We had a good discussion and I would have liked more time to develop your ideas, SO if you want another round of the discussion next class, come prepared.  Click the tab above for the handout, focus on ONLY the Aboriginal readings AND make sure you have read & done the homework below.  Majority rules, so depending on the class we will or will not have another circle discussion. If your original sheet was complete and you do NOT need to add or redo it, then you can just use that sheet; I will return them to you.

HOMEWORK: Due Mon

  1. Read Act 5
  2. Character Analysis Chart handout – get started on at least 4 characters.  For each of the main characters you should have at least 3 character traits & evidence.  List the character, list his/her characteristics, then find evidence for each characteristic. Ex. Helena – determined or persistent – “I’ll follow thee and make a heaven of hell,/To die upon the hand I love so well.” (II,i,228-229)

  1. Totem” – Reading  Quiz, Story Notes, Qs #3-6, 8, 11 AND 7a) List out what the totem could symbolize. 7b) List out what the noises could symbolize. 7c) & 9 –
  2. Socratic Circle Discussion – prepare notes for the discussion using the 4 readings & the story “Totem”.  You shouldn’t be writing out paragraph responses for each section.  Instead you’re writing notes for yourself to guide & remind you during the discussion.

  1. Titania’s lines (p. 34 – “Set your heart at rest”) Find and mark on your paper: 2 metaphors, alliteration (4 min.), assonance (4 min.), repeated key words, repeated phrases

HOMEWORK: Due Tuesday

  1. Titania’s lines – “Set your heart at rest” – on the paper where you wrote out the lines, mark any words you don’t know & look up their meaning, mark any words that connect to your senses (ex. spiced Indian air) AND at the end of every line/next to, draw 1 image of what you see – imagery!
