ENGLISH 11 – 1.3/2.2

HOMEWORK: Due Tues/Wed

  1. Journal #6 – Empathy Journal – Write a journal entry from Hariharan’s point of view.  Based on what we learned about him from the story, what would he do, how would he react, what would he be thinking?  This can take place right when he opens his suitcase in Toronto or when he returns home.  
  2. Narrative Presentations – Conflict, POV, and Other techniques #1: I need whatever handouts you’re going to use by Monday (block 2.2) and Tuesday (1.3), so I can make photocopies.  I also need you to run through your presentation/lesson with me so I know what’s going to happen.  See previous post for helpful videos.

ENGLISH 9 – 2.1

HOMEWORK: Due Tuesday

  1. LP #11-16 (sentences) #29, 41, 32 (nouns, pronouns, verbs)
  2. Notebook: Journal #5 – Critical Thinking – What is it?  Why is it important?  Using your new and improved outline (p.33), write your 1st draft on p. 34-35.  This is a double spaced, multi-paragraph response with a H.I.T intro, a strong PEE on it body, and a good, thoughtful conclusion.  You can use any of the examples we discussed in class or others to prove your ideas.  FOCUS: essay structure AND sentences – proper sentences & variety of sentences (LP).

ENGLISH 9 – 2.1

HOMEWORK: Friday

  1. LP #14, 15, 16
  2. Journal #5 – Critical Thinking Outline – add to and change your ideas using what you watched and discussed in class
  3. Find at least one example of your own to share with the class – it can be a video ad, written, or anything else that would be an example of WHY THINKING CRITICALLY IS IMPORTANT. Make sure you can share it with the class – so have the link or paper with you.
  4. Narrative Presentations: Conflict, POV, Other techniques: Satire, Irony, Imagery, Personification, Simile, Metaphor.  Be prepared to present on Tues/Wed.  Block 1.3 – Only 1 group has talked to me!! If you haven’t talked to me yet, you MUST asap.  And all groups – You need to see me on Monday to give me your handout to photocopy.

HOMEWORK: Due Thurs

  1. Everyday Use” – Prep for reading Quiz, finish the story Qs AND fill in the Characterization worksheet (try to pull a variety of examples from THROUGHOUT the story not just one part). The worksheet will be collected.
  2. Journal #7Family & Identity – Using the multi-paragraph structure handout, discuss how your family has had and continues to have an impact on your identity.  You need to provide specific examples about specific members of your family – ex. grandma, eldest sister, dad, etc. and what/how they have influenced who YOU are as a person. 
  3. Identity Project – start on Part 3: Looking Back to the Past – What Qs do you have?  What topic do you want to do?  Start to brainstorm ideas. Rough copy for Part 3 will be due on Monday.

ENGLISH 9 – 2.1

HOMEWORK: Due Wed

  1. LP #11-13 (sentence basics) AND #29, 41, 32 (nouns, pronouns, verbs)
  2. Notebook p. 33 – Journal #5: What is critical thinking and why is it important to be a critical thinker?  Use the ideas we brainstormed (p.32) to do an outline. Outline worksheet- fill in the outline in PENCIL because you will likely be making some changes/additions to it after Wednesday’s lesson.
  3. Remember to clean up & keep your notebook better organized this term because I will be looking and evaluating more closely next time I check them.
