  1. Character Pkg – “If I were a Boy” lyrics Qs.  You not be able to do them all fully, but do your best to do all of the questions.
  2. Character Pkg – unit TEST – Thurs/Fri – Review ALL of your terms AND both of the stories.  Use your notebook to help you. 
  3. “Building Bridges” Character Writing – FINAL copy due on Friday/Monday.  Typed, MLA, etc.  Use your Mary Paragraph to help improve this one as well as your notebook worksheets & exercises.  Show me how much you know with writing paragraphs.

ENGLISH 8 – 1.3/2.3

HOMEWORK: Due Mon/Tues

  1. LP #31 & #32 Pt. A,C,E,G,I – practice your verb tenses, so you can understand how to use them properly in your paragraphs
  2. Mary Paragraph Exercise – finish the exercise we started in class with the paragraph I wrote.  Find & mark all the elements according to the instructions
  3. Notebook: p. 42-43 -3rd “Building Bridges” Character Paragraph – for the 3rd draft focus on the following: transitions, vocabulary, sentences, punctuation, verb tense, AND make sure you used quotes properly.  Here’s the video to help —>  Quote Sandwich technique
  4. Character Pkg TEST – next week – Thurs/Fri – review ALL of your terms (flashcards) and review the 2 stories.  Most of what you need to use will be in your notebooks like your story summary map sheets.

HOMEWORK: Due Thurs/Fri

  1. Writing Pkg – Integrating Quotes – read & highlight AND do exercises – 4 examples total. Watch the following videos to help you —> How to Integrate Quotes AND Using Quotations AND  Integrating Quotes Tutorial 
  2. For those of you who are wondering how to cite your sources, here’s an amazing site —> Purdue OWL
  3. Gender & Media Essay – Self edit 1st draft (use pencil).  Focus on STRUCTURE – Hook, Thesis, PEE, etc.; IDEAS/INFO – points, details/evidence AND add quotes (at least 1 for each point)
  4. If you click on the English 11 tab above and scroll down to the Writing Resources heading, you will find links to both questions/answers for both movies as well as all the articles I gave you AND some extra articles as well.  USE this info as RESEARCH that you can then QUOTE or PARAPHRASE as evidence to prove your ideas/points. Keep track of where you get the info/quotes you use because you MUST CITE anything you use – summary, paraphrase, quotes – that you didn’t know yourself/common knowledge. Otherwise it’s considered PLAGIARISM!

HOMEWORK: Due Thurs/Fri

  1. We will be editing your paragraphs for the majority of class, so make sure you bring your work and have your 2nd draft done!
  2. Notebook: p. 40-41 – 2nd draft Bebe/Mama Lil’ paragraph.  Read the comments from your Mary paragraph and use the info in your notebook ESPECIALLY p. 26 to help you with your paragraphs.  Follow the structure!
  3. 2nd draft – MUST have 1 quote as evidence for each of the 3 traits you’re writing about. Use p. 26 handouts in your notebook to help you with the quotes OR watch the following video —> Quote Sandwich technique
  4. Character Pkg – Lyrics – “If I were a Boy” – read, highlight, look over the questions. Preview the video —> “If I Were a Boy”
  5. Start to review info in this package.  You’ll have a unit TEST next week.

HOMEWORK: Due after SPRING BREAK!

  1. Essay outline – choose your essay topic from the 3 options & do the outline.  Make sure you’re using DETAILS – facts, examples, reasons – from the readings/movies. Make sure you note where you got your information for your works cited/citations.  Essay Outline
  2. Write your first draft. Double spaced, pen or typed. We will be editing and holding writer conferences, so make sure you have your outline & draft done AND with you! No excuses!

    2. Mama Lil’ & Bebe – A Character Grid for one and a Character Web for the other
    3. Notebook – p. 36 – Story Summary Map for “Building Bridges”
    4. Notebook – p. 37 – Outline for either Mama Lil’ OR Bebe – Discuss the character of Mama Lil’ or Bebe.
    5. Notebook – p. 38-39 – First Draft of Mama Lil’ OR Bebe paragraph! REMEMBER you MUST use at least 1 QUOTE from the story as evidence.
  2. Do the work in order and it will get easier as you go!
