    1. Email video to me BY MONDAY so I can forward it to the production team
    2. Everyone should have emailed me their “war/conflict” quote which I also have to send to the production team

ENGLISH 8 – 1.2/2.3

HOMEWORK: Due Thurs/Mon

  1. LP #1-2 (Block 1.2 – LP #3-4)
  2. Notebook: p. 8 BLT Paragraph Outline “Similarities”
    1. Look over p. 7 where we brainstormed.
    2. Choose your TOP 3 similarities & put them from weakest to strongest ideas
    3. Write your first similarity in sentence form for Point 1. Then follow it with 1-2 sentences with examples/details from the story and the song. Then fill in the other 2 points the same way with your other two similarities.
    4. You should be writing 2-3 sentences for EACH point because the middle part of the “sandwich/burger” is the best and most important part.  Just like we did for our “Why do you like Halloween” paragraph example.

    1. p. 5 – “Autumntime” Basic Plot – fill in the main events that happened in the beginning, middle, and end of the story
    2. p. 7“Autumntime” and “Big Yellow Taxi” Similarities – In note form, fill in  details about the story and the song. In the middle write in ideas about how the 2 readings are similar

    1. Test – bring a pencil & eraser
    2. Workbook collect – make sure you’ve done ALL the lessons and exercises
  2. Notebook: p. 15 – Friendship Outline
    1. p. 13 – Consider your brainstorm as well as your group brainstorm about FRIENDSHIP. Focus & narrow down your brainstorm ideas to the strongest, clearest, and most varied.
    2. p.14 – Review the 3 paragraph essay outline sheet 
    3. p. 15 – Do your OUTLINE following the format from p. 14. Topic: What is friendship and why is it important?
      1. Intro:
        1. Hook + Background info (Aristotle) + Thesis
      2. Body: In point form 
        1. Point(s) to explain what your definition is & why
        2. Point(s) to explain why friendship is important
      3. Conclusion: 
        1. Restate thesis, connect back to intro 
    4. If your unsure about what to write for your hook or thesis. That’s okay, just try. Read the description and TRY. We will mostly be focusing on the structure and ideas in the BODY paragraph for this journal.

HOMEWORK: Due Wed

  1. Remembrance Day Assembly project
    1. EVERYONE must find a quote that connects in some way to war/conflict.
      1. You must write a paragraph explaining WHY you chose the quote AND WHY you think others (ie. the rest of the school) should also know or experience the quote. 
      2. Print off your quote for me to evaluate
      3. EMAIL me your quote, so I can share it with the video producers – haulakh@vsb.bc.ca 
    2. If you are NOT helping with the video production AND are NOT on stage reading your poem or a quote, YOU MUST find a partner from either class and INTERVIEW SOMEONE. Be creative. Your objective is to share interesting, thoughtful, and thought-provoking ideas about war/conflict. 
      1. Ask someone IF they would be willing to be interviewed for the assembly. They will be on screen for 15-30 seconds.
      2. Give them the questions you’re going to ask IN ADVANCE
      3. Set up a time & place to do the interview that’s quiet
      4. Possible question ideas: How has war/conflict impacted your life? Why do you think it’s important to recognize Remembrance Day? Why do you think Remembrance Day is a national holiday? Why is it important for all Canadians to recognize the sacrifices made by others, especially soldiers & their families?  What do you think students should be thinking about during our Remembrance Day assembly?

    1. Step one: Do as many questions as you can WITHOUT have to look antyhing up
    2. Step two: Using a DIFFERENT colour, do the questions you left blank the first time, BUT this time LOOK BACK to the lessons to get help

    1. Jrnl #2 – Friendship Brainstorm– Brainstorm your thoughts on the following 3 topics:
      1. Consider what Aristotle thought about friendship along with the videos we watched
        1. YOUR definition of friendship
        2. The Role(s) of Friends
        3. The Importance of Friends/Friendship
