ENGLISH 11 – 1.2/2.2

HOMEWORK: Due Wed/Thurs

  1. Narrative Devices Presentations – We need to figure out your groups! Block 1.2 – 7 grps of 3 & 2 grps of 4. Block 2.2– 8 grps of 3 & 1 grp of 2.  Figure out who you want to work with & hopefully it works out!
  2. Both classes – Identity Poems handout – read & follow the instructions – mark up the poems!
  3. Both classesJournal #2 – Empathy 1st POV – “ Miss Brill” – write a journal as if you were Miss Brill when she gets home after the park or within a week or two after the story ends.  Using your understanding of her character, consider what just happened, how she would feel, what she would do, and how she lives her life. FIRST PERSON POV.  Become her & write from her perspective.
  4. Block 2.2 – Miss Brill Qs, story notes, reading quiz – etc. from last post –watch the video – make connections — “Brick by Boring Brick”
  5. Block 1.2 – Terms pre-test corrections and we will continue the video clips on appearance & identity.  If you were absent, I’ve posted the videos we watched last class on the English 11 tab above along with the worksheet

ENGLISH 8 – 1.1/2.1

HOMEWORK: Due Mon/Tues

  1. Please note that because of the Pro-D, Block 2.1 has more time, but also more homework to do in order to catch up.
  2.  LP – we will be starting the workbook, so make sure you’ve bought one.
  3. Block 1.1 – Rough copy of Alliteration Poem – Titled, 4-6 lines, 2 examples of alliteration, 1 ex. of assonance, mature/serious ideas, mark or indicate your use of alliteration & assonance
  4. Block 1.1 – study the poetry terms & sheets for a poetry terms quiz on Tuesday. Watch the videos to help you study —> Sound Device in Songs & Poetry
  5. Both Blocks – Finish all poetry sheets including “Big Yellow Taxi”, Flashcards – for the 8 poetry terms on the Special Sounds of Poetry sheet

  1. LP – has arrive, we will be starting it.  Otello field trip for m & $16
  2. Lit Circle sheets #1-3 – catch up! Most of next class will be Lit Circle discussion time
  3. Narrative Terms – pre-test
  4. Journal #3 – Discuss how much your race/ethnicity impacts your identity.  
  5. Watch the videos before you write your journal.  Maybe they will give you more to think or write about.  How much does race matter? Click here —> What is Privilege? —>  Doll Test —>Slam Poem-  “White Boy Privilege”  —> USA – police shootings —> How Privileged Are You test – gender, race, education, etc.

  4. Finish Journal #2 – Gender – Discuss how much your gender/sex impacts your identity? Discuss the advantages & disadvantages of your sex/gender.  Don’t just list, explain with examples.  Intro/body/conclusion, double spaced, in pen, about 250-300  words.
