  2. Journal #6 – Writing Prompt – What achievement are you most proud of and why?  Remember to have a topic sentence, follow it with supporting details that use transitions, and then make sure to conclude.  This should be about 1 page double spaced, in pen.

  1. LP #66-68 – writing skills
  2. Extended Metaphor – good copy – typed, double spaced, 250-300 words, MLA – click on English 10 tab for MLA info
  3. Compare & contrast handouts – Read all & Do the Venn Diagram for Ms. Hancock & Mom – note form
  4. Compare & contrastwatch the following videos & take notes – Compare & Contrast Essays Tutorial – and watch from 2:00 mins to 4:56 mins – Compare/Contrast Visual Structures Block & Alternating/Point-by-Point – draw out her 2 visuals on the back of the note sheet I gave you.

  1. Lit Circles – have your first reading & role sheet completed for your first meeting.
  2. The Act of Writing – p. 322 – “The Scar” – Qs – Ideas for Discussion… Qs #1 & #3 – note form responses are fine
  3. Essay Journal #1 – “The Scar” – Discuss the thesis (paragraph #3) and what this essay is describing and arguing about the impact & consequences of war.  Double spaced, in pen, a least 1 page.

ENGLISH 10 – 1.3/1.4

HOMEWORK: Due Wed

  1. 2nd draft of extended metaphor – Focus on improving your vocabulary, adding imagery, and adding sentence variety.
  2. Reading Goals sheet!
  3. The Metaphor” – Character analysis & compare/contrast – Make a chart that lists AT LEAST 10 character traits for Ms. Hancock and 10 traits for Mom (20 traits total).  For each trait find evidence from the story – a quote – that shows/explains/proves that trait. Follow my example – Ms. Hancock – colourful – “She was fond of … lipstick – in hot pink or something closer to purple or magenta”(215).  ** Please note – do not mainly focus on physical appearance.  You should be analyzing personality more.
  4. Make sure you’ve completed the story map for “The Metaphor”

  1. Reading Goals sheet – have it filled in for our reading conferences
  2. Lit Circle novel – finish the novel you were given before winter break if you haven’t already!
  3. People who missed the short stories test before the break- You MUST bring a note!  Multiple choice test – THIS THURS. – at lunch.  Edward Scissorhands movie essay test – Next week – TUES – at lunch.

  1. LP – Unit #2 lesson – complete in this order – #11, 12, 13, 29. 32, 41(a), 14, 15, 16, 26, 27 – All of these lessons are related to writing good sentences
  2. Values Pkg – finish reading the last 3 readings – highlight & do any Qs in each of the readings
  3. Independent Novel – finish reading the book you signed out from me!  You will be sharing, in some form or another, your thoughts on the book when you get back!
