HOMEWORK: Due Tuesday, March 28th

  1. TKAMread Chp. 9-12 (finish chp 12), do Qs #21-30
  2. TKAMWorksheetsCONFLICT – you must have at least ONE example for each conflict & type (1 for each box) for a total of 6 examples.  CHARACTERS – you must have at least TWO traits with examples for Scout, Jem & Atticus AND at least ONE trait with examples for Dill, Calpurnia & Miss Maudie for a total of 9 traits.  Remember, I’m asking for personality traits that represent who this character is (round characters).  The examples help to show & express the trait.  Here are links to LISTS of CHARACTER TRAITS to help you —> Personality Traits AND Positive Character Traits with definitions AND 443 Postive & Negative Character Traits

HOMEWORK: Due Monday, March 27th

  1. There Will Come Soft Rains” – Group Qs (All Qs) AND Story Map —> Man vs. Earth  AND Dear Future Generations: Sorry— Check out this Slam Poems both by Prince Ea & Consider how they connect to the story & the themes & the journals we’ve been discussing & doing
  2. Journal #5 – Hubris & Irony – Discuss the HUBRIS and IRONY in the story.  Use examples from the story to explain your ideas.  HUBRIS – arrogance/over confidence.  IRONY – the opposite of what is expected happens (See the links for more info —-> What is hubris?  AND  Hubris & Greek Mythology AND Hubris: meaning & explanation AND Dramatic Irony AND Verbal Irony AND Situational Irony)
  3. Start to review your Qs, story maps & journals –  March 31st – unit test on all of the stories.  There will be 2 parts to the test.  Part 1 – matching/fill in the blanks – narrative terms & maybe some basics about the stories.  PART 2 – written response – I will be checking for 2 things.  One is your skills and knowledge of proper writing structure.  The other is your understanding of the themes of the stories.  You’ll be writing on one of the themes that has come up in several stories.  You’ll have to discuss how that theme is shown in 3 of the stories by providing evidence/examples from 3 of the stories.
  4. Short Story Journals – I will be collecting all 5 journals – March 31st.
  5. Fahrenheit 451 – start reading!  The more you read over spring break, the less you’ll have to read when you come back to school.  Here are some interesting & helpful video links —> THUG Notes summary & analysis AND Summary & Analysis AND Crash Course – Novel info

  4. Short Stories Unit Test – Friday, March 31st – Written response – Theme focus from all the stories we have studied – so go over your paragraph structure AND review key ideas & themes for each of the stories.
  5. All  5 short story journals will be due after spring break

  1. Freedom to Read poster – done to the level & ability of gr. 10 students.
  2. TKAM – Read & do Qs – Chp 5-8
  3. TKAM – Journal #1 – From all of the Social Context Presentation comments/notes you took, choose 3 comments you wrote down to discuss in a formal journal.  For each comment, give a brief description of the presentation, state your comment, and then discuss it.  PARAGRAPH FORM. ALL journals MUST be in a note book, NOT on loose paper.

  2. Journal #4 – “The Murderer” – Does modern technology make our lives (more) better OR (more) worse?  Explain your response with 3 reasons.  Follow the Journal Structure sheet for your DOUBLE SPACED, in pen journal response.
  3. Freedom to Read Poster – find 2 books that you’ve read & enjoyed that have been BANNED somewhere.  Fill in the poster – Title/Author/Visual and info on when & where it has been banned. See separate post for more links.
  4. Group #3 – Class poster – each of you should come with ideas that look at how “The Murderer” represents a future utopia & dystopia.  Use the worksheet headings to help guide you.
