You must take notes on these pages (I will be checking your notes), as well as the video & your own notes, write a proper paragraph to discuss: What is poetry?  You need to have a hook, a clear topic sentence, and several supporting details that should come from the reading (PEE on it), and a concluding sentence. PEN. DOUBLE-SPACED.  I will be evaluating BOTH your ideas AND your writing skills

  1. Pink Poetry Terms Sheets – Make flashcards for #1-9 (you may already have flashcards for many of them) AND write in examples of your own for #1-6 in the blank example space on the pink sheet itself.
  2. Alphabet Aerobics” – read & mark the examples of alliteration, assonance, consonance, and rhyme.  I started for you with the “A’s”.  Use different colours or different markers for each – ex. circle/box, squiggly lines/double underline, etc.

  2. WorksheetsCharacter – all main characters must have 3 traits each filled in AND all minor characters (except Ewells) must have 2 traits each filled in.  Conflict2 examples of conflict for each section (6 boxes = 12 examples total).  Theme1 example for 1 theme.

TKAM Final Project – start brainstorming & gathering info for the project topic you signed up for.  DO NOT leave it to the last minute because (1) You will be really stressed out (2) You won’t be able to put in the same amount of effort (3) Your ideas will not be as good (4) The final product will not look as good (5) Your mark will suffer (6) I will be upset! (7) You will be upset!  All good reasons to get started, bit-by-bit, NOW!

  1. Journals #1-6 – collected – all should be clearly titled/labeled, double spaced, in proper paragraph form, edited, and a good discussion of the topic.
  2. Short Stories Test Part 2:  Use the handout and take time to prepare your response.  You WILL NOT be allowed to bring in any notes, but you will have time to organize and outline before you write.  The time you spend preparing at home will make a significant difference, so spend time preparing your ideas and your structure.  Remember I am assessing your knowledge of the stories & theme AND your ability to write a proper paragraph response.
  3. Collect late story maps & “There Will Come Soft Rains” story pkg.

  1. TKAM Part 1 Quiz – review the characters, setting, conflict, plot for the first part of the novel.  Look through your questions and the videos I posted before to help.
  2. TKAMRead chp. 13 and do Q #31
  3. Final Project handout – read through the handout & note down any questions you have.
  4. Worksheets – make sure you’re caught up with what was assigned over the break- Conflict & Characters worksheets.  Just because I didn’t check them last class, doesn’t mean I won’t.  If you can get ahead and add more points, that’s even better!  See previous post for more info.

  3. Journal #6 – Watch both videos.  Connect the 2 poems to the stories we’ve read in this unit.  Man vs. Earth  AND Dear Future Generations: Sorry—  Consider how they connect to the story & the themes & the journals we’ve been discussing & doing
  4. Start to review your Qs, story maps & journals –  March 31stPart 1 unit test . Part 1 – matching/fill in the blanks – narrative terms.   PART 2 next week– written response – I will be checking for 2 things.  One is your skills and knowledge of proper writing structure.  The other is your understanding of the themes of the stories.  You’ll be writing on one of the themes that has come up in several stories.  You’ll have to discuss how that theme is shown in 3 of the stories by providing evidence/examples from 3 of the stories.
  5. Short Story Journals – I will be collecting all 5 journals – March 31st.
