ENGLISH 9 – 2.4

HOMEWORK: Due Thurs

  1. Fahrenheit 451 – worksheet – Theme – finish!
  2. Vocabulary – for each of your 6 words, write out the definition in your own words (you can use synonyms) and then write a sentence using the word.  The sentence should be connected to the definition and you need to leave a blank space where the word should go. Ex. Happy – When I do well in class I feel ___________ and joyous. In total you will have 6 definitions and 6 sentences.
  3. Project due May 29th 
  4. Complete all Qs in the Qs pkg.
  5. If you were absent, you need to BRING A NOTE and see me ASAP for your vocab words and to write your quiz.

ENGLISH 8 – 1.1/2.1

HOMEWORK: Due Tues/Wed

  1. Extra worksheets – Personification – ON A SEPARATE PIECE OF PAPER: Personification wheel: write 8 different lines using 8 different nouns & 8 different verbs from the 2 wheels. NO REPEATS! Personification poems – read and complete the Qs.
  2. You & I” poem worksheet – finish!
  3. Poetry Project – Look at the GREEN project info sheet – For next class – (1) Choose your theme (2) Choose 3-4 poems types that you would like to write for your project (3) write 2 rough copy poems for your project.  You are all including a BIO-Poem for the project, so start with that poem. Go back to the one you already wrote and make it better.  Add alliteration, assonance, similes, better descriptive language, and/or make it connect more to your theme.  Then do the same for 1 other poem you’ve already written.  Use the worksheets!

HOMEWORK: Due Tuesday

  1. Fahrenheit 451 – Worksheets – Finish “Symbols” and “Plot” – remember for plot, you need to put the 20 events in order AND then draw out a plot graph and write the events in order onto the correct part of the plot graph. Ex.  What event(s) is the initiating event or what event(s) is the climax, etc. GET STARTED on “Theme
  2. Quiz #4 – will be on some of part 2 but mostly part 3 of the novel
  3. Project check – I will be checking your rough copies of your last 2 entries – Focused Novel Study.  See previous post for more info.
  4. A Dissident’s Diary” – project DUE May 29th.

ENGLISH 8 – 1.1./2.1

HOMEWORK: Due Thurs/Fri

  1. Poetry Duotang – ON A SEPARATE PIECE OF PAPER (do NOT write in the duotang) – complete the”Similes” & “Metaphors” exercises
  2. Worksheet“YOU & I” – simile poem worksheet – complete the 3 steps: 1. list 5 ppl; 2. Fill in the simile descriptive chart for 2 ppl and yourself; take the similes you wrote for yourself and 1 other person and write “You” and “I” poems like the one on p. 38 in your duotang.
  3. POETRY PROJECT – Read through the green instruction sheet to remind yourself of what is required for your project.  Brainstorm possible themes for the project and come to class with at least ONE theme that you could focus your whole project on.  Word of advice: choose a theme that you like that is broad, rather than narrow/too specific, so you don’t limit your writing options- ex. life, growing up, friendship, travel, etc.
  4. Do your quiz corrections!

  1. Fahrenheit 451 – Finish the book!  Do Qs. #16-20
  2. WorksheetsSymbols – Fill in the examples section for each symbol/motif AND do at least the first 3 Qs – below. You will be finishing and handing in this worksheet in class.
  3. Project – Choose your 2 topics for Focused Novel study entries – remember you’re doing BOTH number 1 and 2, BUT you get to choose what THEME and what SYMBOL you want to focus on.
  4. Quiz #4 – your final quiz will be on Tuesday
  5. Dissident’s Diary – final, completed, good copy, finished deadline – DUE DATEMay 29th!! (Got it Harvey!)
