  3. Block 1.2 – Lit Circle Role sheet for your (new) Lit Circle Groups – Ashley check with your group (Zain, Ghielene, Jared, Sandeep).  Charlene – Come see me asap!
  4. Block 1.1 – You’ve chosen to make your own Lit Circle Groups- so you should start to figure them out – 5 groups of 5 people!

  2. Setting Pkg – “AutumntimeQs will be collected next time, so just make sure you added to and completed each question
  3. Flashcards – create 4 new flashcards for the poetry terms: Line, Stanza, Alliteration, Consonance. The definitions are on the “Special Sounds of Poetry” page.
  4. Setting Handouts & notebook – complete the “What’s the Setting?worksheet – read each of the 4 passages & then in note form write in the “Time” & “Place” details in the columns
  5. Block 1.4 – Set up your notebook using this info:
    1. Table of Contents – on the first notebook page
    2. Title Page – English 8 – Short Stories – on the second notebook page
    3. The 4 Parts of Setting Foldable – glue/tape blank paper we folded together into your notebook on the BACK of the title page.  Write pg.1 at the bottom. On each of the 4 flaps, write in the 4 parts of setting and on the inside of each, write in the definition
    4. What’s the Setting worksheet – glue/tape in the worksheet opposite the foldable.  Write pg.2 at the bottom. Complete the worksheet.

  1. Journal #1Identity – What is your identity?  Discuss the top 5 words/ideas you would use to describe your identity.  Discuss why each descriptor is important to who you are (ex. gender, ethnicity, personality traits, beliefs, skills, culture, family, environment, etc). JOURNAL REQUIREMENTS: Name/Date/Block/Label/your OWN title, Min. 1 pg double spaced, in pen, multi-paragraph (3+), good discussion of the topic.  Practice your writing skills.  You will be peer editing/sharing your journals.

HOMEWORK: Due Wed

  2. Set up your Interactive Notebook – leave the first page as your TABLE OF CONTENTS. Leave the second page for your ENGLISH 9 WRITING title page.  On the BACK of your title page, glue/tape in the WRITING PROCESS handout – p.#1. Opposite the Writing Process handout, glue/tape/write in your BRAINSTORM for JRNL #1 – MY VALUES – p.#2. On the back of the brainstorm page, leave it blank.  I will be giving you a handout to put in – p.#3. Opposite this blank p. #3, on the top half of p. #4, LIST out your top 5 values, below or beside each, in note form write why and how it’s important to you & your life AND how/where/from whom you learned this value.  Ex. Hardwork – watching my parents work hard, sacrifice, and succeed.  I want to be proud of myself and I want to do well & succeed in my life too. 
  3. This narrowing down and adding details step on p.#4 is very important.  You will be taking this info and creating an outline and then using the outline to write your 1st draft, so DON’T skip this step.

  2. Autumntime” – Qs – Interpreting #5-8; Developing Skills – #1-3 – Setting, Theme, Symbol – Some of the questions will be DIFFICULT, but I want you to TRY your best. You will have the chance to add to your answers when we go over them in class.
  3. Flashcards – make 4 flashcards. 1 for each of the 4 setting terms: Time, Place, Mood, Tone.  Term on one side. The definition & an example on the other side.
  4. If you didn’t get a blue, narrative terms definition sheet, come see me asap! or click on the ENGLISH 8 tab above and then click on narrative elements to download all the terms.

  3. Values” pkg read the first page AND watch these videos — Click here –>  TED Ed “Who Am I?” AND Mind: Personal Identity AND Examples of Values
  4. Journal #1 – BRAINSTORM only – Q: What are your top 5 values? Where did you get them from? Why are they important to you? Come up with a good, long list! You will be discussing and sharing your ideas before you write the journal.  I will also be giving you handout to put in your notebook about writing structure for you to use to write the journal. SO your notebook is very necessary next class.

HOMEWORK: Due Mon/Tues

  1. Identities” group Qs & Presentation– write your point form answers onto the overhead sheet you were given.  Leave some space for any questions you’re unsure of and come see me for help.  EVERYONE should prepare what they are going to be sharing, so you’re confident when you speak.
  2. Overhead: Write the page number and paragraph #s at the top of the overhead & all your group members names & block at the bottom
  3. Get and bring a notebook for your journal responses.  I will often give you time in class to start writing.  I do NOT want you using loose leaf paper

  2. Both blocks: Reading Pkg Poem: Do all the questions for all of the poems.  Write your note-form answers onto the handout
  3. Both blocks: Read and note down any Qs you have for the Identity Project Sheet AND the Lit Circle Sheets
  4. Both Blocks: Get a journal notebook – regular sized paper, at least 80 pgs, dedicated to English only

  3. Values” p.9 – read the page, highlight key info, AND note down your thoughts, reactions, questions/answers onto the page.
  4. Watch these videos BEFORE reading & keep it in mind while reading “Values”.
