HOMEWORK: Due Thurs

  1. SLAM POETRY – make sure you bring all of your sheets & notes from last week’s activity.  You will be finishing your group poem and then PERFORMING/SHARING your poems to a couple of other groups.  Attendance will be taken & you will be required to complete a self-assessment at the end.
  2. Romeo & Juliet – start going through your playbook to get familiar with it AND if you want to, feel free to start reading the play or any of the other readings in the playbook.
  3. Shakespeare/R & J – Finish your intro worksheets – word search & word definitions

ENGLISH 8 – 1.4/2.3

HOMEWORK: Due Wed/Thurs

  1. LP – Using What You’ve Learned  – Make sure you have completed ALL the lessons for UNIT #2.  I will be collecting & checking your workbooks. DO NOT lose any easy marks because you didn’t complete a lesson.
  2. LP Unit #2 TEST – review!  Go online and look up helpful resources or go on Kahoot and search up Kahoots for whatever you’re having a hard time with, OR pick any sentences in any reading and practice – type of sentence, subject/predicate, independent/subordinate, direct/indirect objects, run-ons/fragments, etc.
  3. ORAL STORYTELLING – all of Wed. afternoon will be spent finishing and sharing your oral stories.  You need to bring ALL of the worksheets you were given, and if you’re smart, you will try to finish as much of the story as possible before your afternoon session so you have more time to practice and prepare and less time to freak out and stress!

ENGLISH 11- 1.3/2.2

HOMEWORK: Due Feb. 5/6th

  1. Writing Pkg – read through all the INTRODUCTION sheets – Hook, Thesis – and highlight, write notes & questions.
  2. INTRODUCTIONS – watch the following videos & write in notes onto the INTRODUCTION sheets in your writing pkg to help you. ===> How to Write a Hook AND Writing an Introduction Tutorial AND HIT Introductions – Tutorial with Examples AND How to Write a Killer Thesis
  3. Essays Handout – read the 2 essays “Barbie & Her Playmates” & “51% Minority” – follow the instructions written for each essay – Do Qs, focus on the introductions & on gender stereotypes & roles – write in notes in the margins, write in TS, Ev., CS, and mark transition words/phrases/sentences. AND make the list on examples of how society trains girls to be women & boys to be men.
  4. We will be picking this up & continuing with this unit after Mid-year week.  Remember we’re practicing/learning writing skills, BUT you are also learning more about gender stereotypes & roles which you will then be writing on. SO pay attention & take notes because you will need to use all of that info for your essay.

  1. Poetry Test – study all poetry terms including poetry types & sonnet info
  2. Sonnet Pkg – use it to study & make sure you’ve written in the rhyme scheme, iambic pentameter, and summary for each poem – along with important notes.
  3. Poetry Cafe – remember to bring your food/drink/other contributions AND remember to have 2 poems to share with the class!

ENGLISH 8 – 1.4/2.3

HOMEWORK: Due Wed/Thurs

  1. LP #22 – we are nearing the end of Unit #2, I would recommend that you start to review all the lessons in this unit.  You will have your Unit #2 Test after Experience week – probably on Feb. 8/9th.
  2. “Day the Sun Came Out” – Story Summary Map – Notebook – p. 22 – once you’ve filled in the sheet, fold it in half, and stick it into your notebook.
  3. Character Analysis Grid – STEAL – start to fill in the character grid.  As you fill in information about Mary, find the evidence of what you’re writing in the story & mark it with a star * or write EV. for evidence. For example if you write she said “I ain’t going back” – find that line & put a mark in the margin to show where you found it.  If you write she impacts Pa by making him angry, find that part of the story and mark it.

  1. Start to fill in the Sonnet info chart at the end of your sonnet package.  I will be collecting the pkg on Friday.
  2. Poetry Quest – Friday – Terms, Poetic Forms, and Sonnet info/Qs
  3. Poetry Cafe – you voted to have a poetry cafe on Friday, so 1. Find at least 2 poems/poetic songs that you can share with the class  2. Figure out what you want to bring to contribute to our cafe/potluck.

  1. On Thursday, go straight to the Learning Commons. DO NOT come to class first.
  2. Keep researching your Social Context topic – remember to save all the info & to note/record the source of whatever you use.
  3. READ ALL of the info on the project handout I gave you.  Too many of you are just guessing or doing your own thing.  If you choose to avoid my instructions & expectations, you are also choosing to do badly on this project.
