ENGLISH 9 – 2.4

HOMEWORK: Due Tues

  1. Utopia/Dystopia posters – you will be presenting them AT THE START OF CLASS.  Maybe if yours isn’t finished or could be better, you should consider coming in at the start of break to complete it.  Here are some videos that may help you come up with more ideas —> Utopia vs. Dystopia with Examples AND Movie Examples – THINK BIG!
  2. Lenses” – DO NOT WRITE on the story pkg – reading quiz, Qs #1-5, Story Map (the best you can)
  3. Short Stories Journal #1 – in proper paragraph form discuss – What would you do if you were Grusha?  Would you get the eye surgery or not?  Explain your choice.

HOMEWORK: Due Tues/Wed

  1. Lit Circle PROJECTS – you have course planning for most of this class, BUT I will be checking to ensure you have most of your project completed! Make sure you have your 3 consequences with their respective info & your video mostly done so I can check & give you guidance on any additions/changes
  2. Lit Circle Roles Sheets – will be collected!  I want to have time to mark them before Ms. MacLellan takes your classes.
  3. ALL presentations will be completed on Thurs/Friday – no excuses!  BE THERE!!

  1. JournalEquity vs Equality – In paragraph form – Define both.  Explain the difference. Give a clear example to explain both.  Discuss which you think is better and why. 
  2. Watch the following video to help understand EQUITY vs EQUALITY —> Equity vs Equality 1 AND Equity vs Equality 2
  3. One Friday Morning” – Reading Quiz, Fill in Story Map, Complete all the Qs (you can write onto the handout)
  4. One Friday Morning” additional resources —> USA Pledge of Allegiance AND “Hitch Your Wagon to a Star” quote/allusion—> Ralph Waldo Emerson

  1. Utopian vs. Dystopian future possibilities – you’ll finish and present your posters.  Here are some videos that may help you come up with more ideas —> Utopia vs. Dystopia with Examples AND Movie Examples
  2. Keep studying your Narrative Terms, you will need to be able to apply them to the stories we’re starting AND you will continue to be quizzed on them.
  3. Here are some helpful, fun videos that will help you understand the terms better —> Basics of Setting AND  Plot explained using Aladdin AND Basics of Conflict 
  4. Science Fiction intro & videos —> What is Science Fiction? AND Inventions of the 50s AND Inventions of the 60s AND Importance of the 50s & 60s on Culture

  1. Socratic Discussion Day – You will be discussing all class and handing in 2 completed Socratic Circle sheets
  2. Projects – will be due/presented Feb. 14-17th.  AND Lit Circle sheets will be collected from everyone at the same time.
  3. Ms. MacLellan will be taking over your classes the following week!
  4. SCHOOL PLAY – “7 Stories” – Feb. 20-23rd – buy your tix for $10 – in the office, from Ms. Enthoven, etc. BONUS MARKS!

  2. “Harrison Bergeron” – Qs in text #1-6 & #9 AND  Q- a) What is the purpose of handicapping in sports? b) Give some examples of handicapping in sports? (Ex. Age divisions) c) Why has handicapping become law in Bergeron’s community?d) Is the society improved as a result? Comment.

  2. Journal #8 – Proper paragraph format – Pros & Cons of tech – will be peer shared/edited so make sure you bring it with you
  3. Technology readings – make sure you’ve done ALL the Qs (especially the ones on the back), because we will be discussing/working with your ideas

ENGLISH 11 – 1.2/2.2

HOMEWORK: Due Mon/Tues

  1. Veterans Postcards – whether you write a physical postcard or a e-card, I’d like them by Mon/Tues.  You need to take a picture of your e-card before you send it, so I know you did it. DO NOT include personal info (address, #), BUT do include your name, age/gr/school.  Here’s a link to the site for more info and for the e-cards.  If you want, you can always do both!
