Your LAB Safety Quiz is Tues Sept 27 (use the preface in your textbook and WHMIS symbols at the back of your textbook)

Your polyatomic ion Quiz, see Table 4.11 on page 192 – know all 22 ions with their charges (group the similar ones and THEN memorize them)

Your lab format should be consistent with what you’ve already done in Biology 11

(or use my format: Title page with your name, a title, your lab partners names and the date with my name on there – then have a Purpose, Hypothesis, Materials, Procedure (also called Method; what YOU and your group did, not simply recopying what the lab says); Observations (put your data here);

Discussion (put the answers to the questions from the lab here) and then your Conclusion (which answers your Hypothesis and discusses possible sources of error).

(I’ll have a sample you can come by and snap a photo of, magnetized to the white board beneath your homework list)

Biology 12 – Homeostasis Lab – Do a title page and a write up, each person hands in their own unique copy; follow the order Purpose/Objective; Hypothesis; Materials; Procedure; Observations/Data; Discussion (answer the questions here); Conclusion (discuss possible errors too if you think it adds to the write up)

Typed or handwritten, plagiarism will give you an automatic zero; discuss with your lab partners and then put it into your own words please – staple your handout to the back of your lab.

Chapter 2 – Testing Yourself (TY), Understanding The Terms (UTT) and Thinking Critically (TC) due Wednes Sept 14th

 

Biology 12 – I may never see you again, so please please please (as Mr H would say) get them in by today.

Writing you up for not returning the textbook means no report card, no transcripts for university – and $91 which you could use towards a Venti non-fat soy super hot Caramel Machiatto with cinnamon sprinkles!!!

If you HAVE returned them, I wish you all the best in your future endeavors, HAPPY PROM EVERYONE!!!

The s-moodle also has review for Chapter 4 and 12, the biggest portions of the provincial exam

Shout out to Saad and Karn – found out you need to put at least 5 Mentos in and the Diet Coke should be room temperature; and a smaller hole (drill it into the cap) would get crazy results too ).

It’s all multiple choice and covers chapters 1-11

Please bring something to do when you’re finished; bring materials and study for another exam and bring your headphones – the room needs to remain quiet for students who take a long time to finish their exams.

The booklet is not due yet – Thurs (tomorrow) we’ll have class time to finish “Cram it in Baby” while next Wednesday will be a chance to view an actual brain (please review the parts).

The booklet will be due by the end of Friday May 27, all of it.

 

Chapter 3 is all about the Immune System and Osmosis Jones is a good study of what happens to our bodies in response to disease.

Knowing that Thrax (the villain) is a disease and Osmosis Jones represents White Blood Cells, pretend you are a health columnist or blogger and write a short editorial including the following information:

Why Frank’s health declined

The consequences of his declining health

Your opinion about Frank’s health choices generally

What Frank can do to get his health back using information from chapter 3
