Friday December 8th

1-2 S.S 8: First I collected the homework. Then, I gave a mini lecture on Portuguese exploration while students filled in a guided note package. Students were given the rest of the class to work on a worksheet about the effects of Portuguese exploration. They were asked to consider the immediate and long lasting effects of the way the Portuguese treated the native people of Africa, India and Brazil. They were asked to use ethical judgement to evaluate this.

1-3 S.S 9: I collected the homework. Then, I gave a mini lecture on the American Revolutionary War. Students filled in guided notes as we went along. We then analyzed Patriot and Loyalist propaganda, as well as some examples of propaganda that came up later in history. Students were given the rest of the class to work on making a Loyalist or Patriot propaganda poster of their own.

Thursday December 7

1-2 S.S 8: We started a new unit on The Age of Exploration! I gave a mini lecture on why exactly European’s wanted to begin to set sail and go to other countries and continents around the world. Students filled in guided notes. Then, we watched a Crash Course video on the three main mariners from the 15th century – Zheng He, Vasco De Gama, and Christopher Columbus. This was just an introduction to them – we will going more in depth in classes to come. Students were given the rest of class to work on a worksheet package about ships and navigation – all information can be found in their textbooks. This is due next class, Friday December 8th. We will be having a unit test on Wednesday, December 20th.

1-4 ELL S.S: We talked about the Economic Revolution – that involves the formation of factories and invention of many different machines. I gave a mini lecture while students filled in guided notes. Then, students were given information about different inventions and a worksheet to fill in. The worksheet is due next class, Monday December 11th.

1-3 ELL Reading: We worked on the vocabulary for our new story, and some students had to finish their homework assignment from the previous day. During this time, students also practiced their reading with me 1 on 1. Vocabulary is due next day.

Wednesday December 6

1-3 S.S 9: We started our new unit today… The American Revolution! I started with a homework check, and then moved on to explain the next historical thinking concept we will be working on – Cause and Consequence. For every Cause/Event there are always Consequences. I have a short lecture on the Causes of the American Revolution and then students started on their homework. They must fill in a chart about the 5 main causes of the American Revolution – they must fill in every cause, consequence and draw an illustration. All information can be found in the PPT Notes I provided. Cause and Consequence chart is due next day, Friday the 8th! We also have a Unit test coming up on December 20th.

Tuesday December 5

2-1 S.S 8: We did our gallery walk presentations today. Students gave peer feedback to three classmates each. Afterwards, they filled in their K-W-L chart with information that they learned from their peers projects. Lastly, students filled in an exit slip that was handed in at the end of class. No homework! We are starting a new unit next day – Exploration!

2-4 ELL S.S: We completed an entrance slip at the beginning of class where students were able to use their homework to answer the proposed question. After this, we began working on a worksheet package about inventions from the Agricultural Revolution. This worksheet package is due next class – Thursday, December 7th.

2-3 ELL Reading: We read a new story today – “Don Quixote and the Windmills”. Afterwards, students had time to finish their worksheet package about Caesar Chavez – this package must be handed in next class. Once they finished that they were instructed to begin their vocabulary for our new story. As well, we started doing our daily reading assessment.

Monday December 4

1-3 S.S 9: Today we did our gallery walk presentations. As students circulated to each project they gave peer feedback as well as filled in some notes on the similarities and differences of their peers projects to their own. Lastly, students filled in peer and self evaluation forms based on their group work. Students have homework that is due on Wednesday at the beginning of class – they need to watch “Tea, Taxes and the American Revolution: Crash Course World History #28” and fill in the worksheet that goes with it.
