Investigating Homelessness — Group Project

According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: 

“Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself, including food, clothing, housing and medical care necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age, or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control. ” [article 25 (1)]

 

Is our city doing an adequate job of providing this fundamental human right for all its citizens? You will be investigating the issue of homelessness in groups of 3. Read through the list of topics and tasks to explore below. Choose 3 topics that interest you and your group members the most. Each group will conduct research on one area and create a key visual to present to the class.

Handout with topics (10) will be given in class on Wednesday / Friday Nov. 14….. 

Due Date: Dec 16 / 14  and presentation date

Criteria:

Investigation leads the topic (Homelessness) around a focus question:  / 20

Individual contribution (research, notes, time)           / 20

Presentation:   / 10 (individual mark)

 Poster: visual/neatness/creativity      / 15

Total marks: 65

Project: Pamphlet Nov. 26

Prepare a pamphlet that clearly shows Royalist or Roundhead bias. Please find this definition and create 2 examples in your notebook…..

Your pamphlet should focus on issues of the Divine Right of Kings.  It should include advertisements and stories that will help you demonstrate your knowledge of the life and events of this period!

 

Due date: November 26

Criteria: 

Advertisements and stories relate to time period   / 15

Royalist / Roundhead bias              / 10

Neatness          / 10

Visuals           / 10

Creative        / 10

Works Cited    / 5

Criteria total values might change 50-60 marks maximum

Chapter 1 Test

Chapter 1 test will take place on Monday October 20 and will include the following:

Definitions of key terms / 8 marks

Matching: key people and words/big ideas    / 20 marks

Short Answer Questions:      / 15 marks

  • split from Roman Catholic Church
  • changes and impact of new discoveries in science
  • Economy in Europe and its change from 1500
  • Kings increasing their power
  • the spreading of new ideas

Thinking Question: paragraph answer   / 8 marks

Big Idea: Changes in Europe …. supported by examples

Total = 51 marks

Please ensure your textbook # is correct and do not lend the textbook out. You must bring the textbook to every class  unless I say you do not need your textbook. Take care of it by wrapping it up please!
