SS 9 Dictators and Napolean

After researching a current dictator (from planet ruler website, biography in context on the webcat and any other source), please create a reflection on what you have learned about dictators. The focus can be on absolute power and how it is used. The reflection can be both positive and negative with some discussions on what you have learned about Napoleon also. It is a reflection, so ...express your ideas and opinions about things you have learned about Dictators….do not just write a report (on the accomplishments and their life), this a reflection on dictators.

A final question that can be answered, are Dictatorships good or bad?

    Reflection on Dictators
A dictator is a person who wields absolute power. Dictatorships can be both a good thing and a bad thing. I am going to start with some cons. #1 you get little to no democracy. This is a bad thing because you can’t say what you feel is right. Jose Dos Santos (dictator of Angola) was one of the very few dictators out there that actually led his country toward democracy. #2 Dictators usually end up abusing their power. This means they can do anything and say anything they want sometimes at the expense of the people and you can’t do anything about it. #3 people that live in dictatorships usually have very few rights. This is obviously a bad thing because without rights life doesn’t feel safe. #4 you don’t have freedom of speech. You can’t say what you want to. Now I’ll go on to good things. #1 there is less crime. There is less crime because dictatorships usually have harsh punishments for criminals. #2 changes happen fast. For example if a dictator wants a change in law he or she gets it, they don’t need to waste time fighting for it because there’s no one to fight with. #3 dictators are straight forward. They are straight forward because they know no one can stop them and that’s a good thing because you will know what’s going on. The biggest thing that determines if a dictator is good or not is how they treat the people and how they use their power. For example Jose Dos Santos was a good dictator. He did not abuse his power and led the people toward democracy. Napoleon however was bad. He was called an emperor but basically classified as a dictator. He tried to take democracy away from the people and had a secret police force that could arrest and detain people for absolutely no reason. I think that dictatorships can be good and bad. If you have a dictator that doesn’t abuse his power, understands the country, understands the people, and knows what’s right like Jose Dos Santos then dictatorships are good. If not then democracy wins.

I think dictators are bad and instead of dictatorship I think it should just be democracy but, here are some reasons I think dictators can be both bad and good. Dictators can be bad because they might have no experience on how to run a country. For example, Kim Jong-un was crowned only because his father had died from a heart attack. Not only that but, Kim Jong-un was made a four-star general despite him lacking any military experience. On the other hand, dictators can be good because they might know how to run a country, a military, and might even know how to win the hearts of his people. For example, Napoleon Bonaparte was an excellent general, he was a very smart man, and most of all, he knew how to win the hearts of his people. Another topic I wanted to discuss is absolute power and how dictators use it. Most dictators use absolute power in bad ways. Certain dictators abuse their power so much, they can be called tyrants. Some dictators make their country pretty much a prison. Kim Jong-un uses a lot of censorship. For example, radio, television, music, and news providers that are said legal are operated by the government. People from the outside of Korea that are visiting are strictly being watch. A big number of people are even trapped in camps and are subjected to labour, abuse and even execution. If one dictator can do this imagine how many other dictators can easily do this. Dictators have so much power, that with the right censorship they can make the country believe anything.

A dictator is someone who wields absolute power. Dictators are not always cruel and ruthless, some can be polite and good listeners to its country. Someone like Bashar Al Assad president of Syria is a dictator and is known to kind. Assad got into power against his will, he was not ready to be president of Syria. His older brother was the successor off his father, in 1994 his brother dies in a car crash. Bashar is called from his medical training in Britain, and is groomed to take over his father’s role as president. Bashar was never as strong as his father or his brother. Some of his friends say that he is a polite and friendly person. He was very successful on making changes in the ranks on Syrian institutions. He was also a colonel in the Syrian army. On April 21, 2011 Al Assad lifts the country’s 48 year old state of emergency law. The law, which went into effect in 1963, restricted freedom of speech and gave the government broad power to detain people for perceived threats to national security. On June 6, 2016 he was re-elected. To answer the final question I think it depends on the dictator if he/she is good or bad. It depends how he/she leads the country.

Napoleon used his power to have the attention on him and for his troops to go to war with. There were no articles that i could find about how Nouri Abusahmain used his power. However, there was a list of things he did that he did immediately following his election. Those include: immediately setting up an islamist armed group, playing a part in a constitutional crisis which emerged when Ahmed Malteeq was elected prime minister, and being the founder of the LROR group which was classified was a “terrorist” group. While Nouri didn’t do much good for his country, it seemed as though Napoleon somewhat helped France become a little bit better. His soldiers respected him and many of the people in France liked him too. I think that dictatorships do not benefit to people. Dictators are not fair, they can limit many things, as Napoleon showed by controlling what the newspapers released and forcing schools to make the kids memorize lessons on him.

  • Nouri Abushamin was a good and smart ruler and dictator that ruled Libya from 2013-2014. He stood as an independent candidate, but he had support from the Muslim Brohterhood’s party. He was reported to have rigged proceedings of the General National Congress while serving as its president. He was the first Libyan Berber to attain a national leadership role since the Tripolitanian Republic of 1918-22. His term ended when the new Council of Deputies was established on August 4, 2014. He played a part in the constitutional crisis which emerged when Islamist Ahmed Maiteeq was supposedly elected prime minister in a GNC session in April 2014. Napoleon used his power to make him and his army wealthy. He established the Napoleonic Code which is still being used in France. Napoleon was a dictator which meant he had all the power. Napoleon did good for his country by winning brilliant victories in Italy, at Lodi, Castilogne and Arcole in 1796. He also crushed the Egypt army. However he did not build a strong French economy. Napoleon was one of the youngest generals in the French army. He crowned himself emperor in 1804. I don’t think dictatorship is a good thing because one person has all the power and they can do whatever they want. They can do good or bad things for the country and no one can stop them because they’re the dictator and they have all the power.

    Reflection:
After I did my research on my dictator I found out that most of the things he did were positive and like Napoleon he and his brother took control for the better of their country. Raul Castro perused power over Cuba because he wanted to help Cuba stand up again, just like Napoleon. Raul Castro introduced new laws that were positive toward the country Napoleon also did the same except some were not as good. Raul made sure that there was more education for the Cuban people and that they had housing and at least some acres of land for their food and other uses. Raul just like Napoleon was excellent in attack and defense strategies, that’s why raul was the longest serving defense minister. After everything I learnt about dictators I’d say that Raul Castro would be a great example he had absolute power but he used it for the good of his people. That is what I think dictators should do use their power to take control of the country and make it prosper. I think that if Napoleon had just focused on defense strategies then he would have kept his empire and his successors would still be living today, and if he did exist today his empire would be the greatest of all. Over all I think that dictatorships are good if the dictator has good plans for his/her country, even if some dictators have been bad it would be the peoples’ fault for letting that certain person rise up to power. So yes dictatorship is good.

Basically, Napoleon Bonaparte was anything but pure, anything but modest, anything but democratic, and anything but a peacemaker. He was also the first emperor of France but he was a corrupted leader or at least described as one. He could not see that his actions were dangerous, damaging, and the cause of great anguish. His successes in war made him rely on war as an instrument of policy, and he was insensitive to its human costs. Another thing is that he is accused of betraying the higher ideals of the French Revolution, slowing democratic progress in both France and Europe.

Bonaparte’s use of war to defend and enrich the state of France was anything but unique, excepting that it was consistently successful, something the Bourbons might have envied him. If waging war is now considered strictly a policy of last resort and inherently wasteful, there doesn’t seem to be a major player of Napoleon’s day who was above employing it to achieve their aims. It may be fair to accuse Bonaparte of failing to create a durable peace, but a study of his contemporaries and their policies would likely prove there were other guilty parties.

Now, On 22 July 2014, Prayut issued an interim constitution granting himself amnesty for leading the coup and investing himself with complete control. On 31 July 2014, a national legislature was established according to the constitution. However, the legislators, mostly senior military and police officers, were handpicked by Prayut and included Prayut’s younger brother.[33][34] The legislature (which mostly consisted of Prayut’s close associates) later unanimously voted Prayut the new prime minister. The formal appointment was made on 24 August 2014.[35][36] As a result, Prayut held three positions at the same time: army chief, NCPO leader, and prime minister, before retiring from the army chief post in October 2014.

In February 2015, Prayut declared he had the power to forcefully close media outlets. In March, when asked how the government would deal with journalists who did not adhere to the government’s “laws”, he took an even harsher position, “‘We’ll probably just execute them’, said Prayut, without a trace of a smile…You don’t have to support the government, but you should report the truth’ the former army chief said, telling reporters to write in a way that bolsters national reconciliation in the kingdom”. His remarks were promptly condemned by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ).

I think that dictators are all different from how they act, some may be ruthless and some may be not but all these things depend on the situation. You cant be “nice” when there is a war going on. Dictators do have a lot of power and some take them for granted.

Reflection on Paul Biya and Napoleon
The negative side of Paul Biya is that he has set aside several game and Forrest reserves as further touristic. The negative side of Napoleon was that Napoleons empire collapsed because of the continental system. The Peninsular war, and the invasions of Russia. These events are widely viewed as three major mistakes that led to the weakening of Napoleons role in Europe. The positives Paul and Napoleon were two mind blowing dictators because, Napoleon did everything to be everyone’s everything and to be the best and to thrive with power same with Paul Biya for example they both taught respect and well young and Paul and Napoleon were both born on islands and moved to be something bigger and better and were both powerful beings in there countries. Paul Biya was born on February 13, 1933 in Mvomekaa Cameroon and married Jeanne At yam and they have one child. Paul served Cameroon in many positions as a career bureaucrat. When he became preisident of his west African Nation in 1982 he acted to create a more efficient government he was considered to be a worldly and educated man. Napoleon Bonaparte was a French military and political dictator who became a powerful man during the French Revolution and led several successful campaigns during revolution, he was born on august 15 1769 in Ajaccio France and he married Marie Louise ( duchess of parma ) from 1810 -1821 and than Jesephine de Beauharnais 1796 – 1809 and he has one son. Paul Biya and Napoleon as dictators treated there people differently from each other, Paul treated people with respect and did everything he could to fix everything. Napoleon did everything to take back his country and try to dominate the next and upcoming rivalry and did everything to become powerful, many people hated him for what he has done. Paul used his power like any dictator he wanted to keep his country strong and Napoleon was the same. I have learned that every dictator is different yes they all play the same role but they do it so differently from each other.

Today I will be discussing my opinions/thoughts on dictators from my research on Napolean and my 20th century dictator Vladimir Putin. I think dictators use their power in both good and bad ways for example, Napolean used his power to gain more land for France but also killed many people from France and lost many soldiers in his wars. Putin used his power for good by making a powerful army and protecting Russia but also used it for bad by attacking other innocent countries like Ukraine. I would say that Dictators treat their people well and sometimes bad. Putin treats his people well and his people love him back. Napolean treated his people somewhat well but then his people wanted to kill him and he was sent to exile but then he came back to his people. Dictators get their power from earning respect from others, proving to be a good and capable leader, showing what they use their power for and eventually being crowned or elected leader. They also use their power by taking over more land and expanding their country like Napolean did. I think some who are more powerful crown themselves leader while others are elected leader. Dictators can be both good and bad because they can use their power for both good and bad reasons. Napolean was a great powerful leader who made France a stronger and more powerful nation but he also killed many, many people. Putin is also a great leader who respects and gets respect from Russia and cares a lot about the country but isn’t that reasonable with other leaders of others countries especially neighboring countries. Overall I would say dictators are more good then bad from what I learned about Napolean and Putin.

  • Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan was a very wealthy dictator who spent a lot of money on himself and his family, I think he should spend more money on his people since he’s also the forth wealthiest monarch in the world. Like Napoleon, he was the commander of the UAE armed forces. I believe this is good for the country so the dictator, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan knows whats going on around his country and knowing what to do about it. This dictator was very good with his people as he does general contributions with his locals and the people very much enjoyed these local meets. These meets were probably great for the dictator as people would like him, and yes people started liking him so much that people made a building made just for him. He was very environmentally friendly as he tried everything to have a good environment in his country, this is very important as people litter on the ground, drive cars that make pollution etc. He supported women rights and that’s one of the reasons why people loved him a lot, I feel like this is a very good thing as everyone should be treated equally. In my opinion, dictatorship is bad as it shouldn’t be that only the ruler’s opinion matters, but everyone that lives in that country’s opinion matters too. Because if a dictator chooses to do something, and nobody likes it then nobody would want to stay at that country. Also, dictators could also abuse this power and make people do very horrible things. But, on the other hand dictators are also good as they can choose what is right for the country while a normal human being might not be able to tell what’s good or bad for the country.

A dictator is someone who has absolute power, or who at least behaves as if they do by bossing others around. However Hassan Rouhani, the 7th president of Iran is a bit of the opposite. He doesn’t have full control over some things, things he doesn’t have control over is handled by the supreme leader. Hassan Rouhani uses his power to improve the country and also keep it safe. He also encourages personal freedom, free access to information and has also improved women’s rights. If I were to compare Hassan to Napoleon Bonaparte I would say that Napoleon was more interested in war than Hassan Rouhani. Napoleon sacrificed many sons and was responsible for deaths of millions of men, women and children across Europe. While Hassan Rouhani promised to make the nuclear disaster in Iran better and also made new laws to help people out. Although Hassan Rouhani does a lot to help his country, he does have some differences with other countries. For example he thinks that Israel is an old wound that should be removed from the world. A dictator could be good or bad, but even the ones that are bad make some good choices for their country. Like some dictators don’t use their power properly. But some use it to do better for the country. I think Hassan Rouhani is mostly the good type of dictator except for the differences he has with Israel.

    Dictatorship
Napoleon is a French during the French revolution, Abdullah bin Abdulaziz king of Saudi Arabia was the head national guard. In Napoleon’s early stages he became a French Military and political leader in 1769 to 1821, Abdullah bin Abdulaziz became Commander of the Saudi Arabia’s National Guard in 1962 to 2010. Later Napoleon became the emperor of France in 1804 to 1814, was of king of Saudi from 1953 to 1964 from 1953 to 1964. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz was a good commander because he bought military weapons worth over a billion dollars, While Napoleon invested on his soldiers example Napoleon gave his soldiers fancy uniforms, badges, awards traditions, good pay, and good food so he can lead them into victory. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz founded military and technical schools, and hospitals. And don’t forget that Abdullah bin Abdulaziz gave women the right to vote for municipal councils and to compete in the Olympics, when Napoleon had power, he gave the indicators that he wanted to end slavery to the Africans. One of napoleons bad sides was that he could control anything he exerted control over the media, the law, and the education system in order to promote these values. Example he controlled the newspaper telling them that they couldn’t criticize about the emperor.dictator means a person with total power over the country. In my opinion i think that napoleon bonaparte and Abdullah bin Abdulaziz weren’t too bad they had they’re ups and downs.

Napoleon and Mswati III are two very different people but they were both dictators. Mswati was born in 1968. He is one of the last absolute monarchs of africa. He rules Swaziland. Mswati trained in a boarding school south of the United Kingdom. He has a merit in Mathematics and English. Mswati joined the Royal Swaziland Poice and Palace Guard, he took his training very seriously. When Mswati turned 18 he was crowned king, on April 25 1986. He was one of the worlds youngest reigning monarchs. Mswati brought changes in the government, but he is still sticking to the traditional order. Mswati, under Swazi Law and custom is “vested with virtually all powers of the state”. He Holds supreme executive authority over the legislature and courts. His Majesty has been accused of torture, excessive force for control, extrajudicial killing by his forces and blatant discrimination. Which are some human rights. He has also restricted freedom of speech, assembly and association. He has harassed activists and journalists. Mswati ives a lavish lifestyle while his people starve.
Napoleon, although ruled with about the same power as Mswati is a lot more gallant than Mswati. Napoleon forced taxes, put interests of state above interests of people, and abolished laws that were put in place to protect women and children, but he did it all with good interests of his country and empire. Unlike Mswati. In general, dictators to me are not good. They have too much power, and its usually only one person that has it. A dictator may have to do things that his people don’t like. Where as a parliament has different people with different ideas, and opinions that people with actually like.

  • Sukhraj Dosanjh

In class we have learned about Napoleon and how he has done some good things and some bad things. We also got the assignment of researching a modern day dictator. Napoleon and the dictator that I researched, Vladimir Putin, have had a lot of achievements in the days of ruling. They both ruled their country and also had absolute power in both their countries. They controlled their countries which, to me, sounds like they don’t want anyone to interfere in their affairs because they think they know what is best. Going back to the topic of absolute power, looking at the world’s statistics, I came to a conclusion that many countries in the world have dictatorships and it looks like most of them are in the eastern hemisphere of the world. The way absolute power seems to work in Russia is that Vladimir Putin looks out for his country instead of spread fear in his country. Just like Napoleon, Vladimir Putin was elected president or ruler in Napoleon’s case and overthrew the previous president. My conclusion about dictatorships is that they are not good. They don’t seem to help the country, it seems like it breaks the country down even more.

  • Sandeep Dhillon

I have learned that there are good dictators that try to improve the country and there are bad dictators that are only ruling to have power and complete control. The majority of dictators shown on the media are shown as bad people and the majority of dictators aren’t good, but the only research I have done are from two dictators. Bad dictators do things to improve conditions for themselves and the people around them and they don’t care about the poor people or the people that are close to becoming poor. When there are good dictators there control could be used to make their country great by making better living conditions and improving problems that affect lots of people. In the long run dictators are not the best type of leader and if all countries had democracy it would be than dictatorship because there could be a better leader at control and there would be a government instead of someone at absolute control. Napoleon was a dictator and he did lots of bad things like many wars, he didn’t care for all the people, and he just wanted power and land. If the world was without dictators then there would more freedom and better conditions for more people and a government would be more helpful because they’re a group of people instead of a dictator who says and control things. In conclusion, I think dictatorships are bad since dictators have so much power they can do bad things like how Napoleon started wars for more land but if the power is in the right hands they can do good things so that makes me think that dictatorship is bad because it could be used for terrible things and that risk isn’t worth it.

  • What is dictatorship? Dictatorship is a type of government that rules a group of countries or country. The government that rules these countries are called a dictator. A dictator is a ruler who has complete control of a country. Most dictators are known to be feared, selfish, and forcing. The dictator that I’ve been researching on is, Mswati III, the dictator of Swaziland. He hasn’t really done much good to Swaziland. His selfishness has lead people to criticize him. He wastes money, spending money on his own luxuries. Almost spending it on a jet, costing a quarter of the nations money. He spent a lot of the nations money on his 13 wives too. He simply has no care for his subjects at all. He takes advantage of how much power he has. In a way, he does compare a bit to Napoleon Bonaparte. They both grew up well educated, and lead their families at young ages. They also had interest in being a guard /soldier. Other than that they don’t compare at all to each other. Napoleon changed many things, some for the better. In my opinion, dictators should at least be taught to rule. Most dictator are ruining the country/ countries they rule. Although, some dictators change things for the better. Others are abusing the advantages they have for being a ruler. A ruler shouldn’t spend luxuries on themselves, they should spend it on things that can make their country better. Instead of going out and getting with other girls or guys. They should finish all the duties they need to do, and change for the better. If you’re feared by your subjects, one day they’ll attack and you may be killed. But, if you are loved, your country wont fall, it will continue to grow. I think that people shouldn’t help the dictator for bad. For example, soldiers help dictators be safe, and win wars. Why would you help someone get more power, if they’ll just ruin the country. Everyone keeps saying they want peace, but more people are doing wrong. I do believe that all dictators are different, that some do good. Unfortunately, there aren’t that many people who can treat their subjects right. For example Napoleon, he changed things, but people grew to fear him, and many attacked him. Dictatorship is neither good or bad, it only really matters on the dictator themselves. If they have ideas that can change the world for the better, and inside they truly are good. There really is no good and bad of a dictatorship. It all just depends on who the dictator is. That concludes my reflection on Mswati III, and Napoleon.

    Bashar Al-Assad
Bashar Al-Assad is the current President of Syria, he was born on September 11,1965 in Damascus, Syria. He was educated and also graduated at the Medical University of Damascus, following graduation he applied to the military and became a military doctor that helped the wounded. After taking part as a doctor in the war for a while he decided to fight in the civil war of Syria, although he was the son of Hafez Al-Assad (former president of Syria) at that time. Bashar is a very meek and awkward fellow some reports describe him as not as strong and autocratic as his father. June 10th, 2000 Hafez Al-Assad dies and just a month later Bashar Al-Assad is elected as the new president easily winning the votes of the Syrian citizens with an outstanding result of 99.7% of the votes. Bashar got in power which was strongly against his will because the role was originally planned to be given to his brother Basil Al-Assad, but he had passed in a terrible traffic collision on January 21st, 1994. Once President, Bashar immediately assures the citizens of Syria that he would fix Syria’s corrupt government and modernize everything such as cities and the society, however that doesn’t go as planned and he abandons it a short while after. Bashar is also the commander-in-chief for the Syrian armed forces as well as the General Secretary of the ruling Arab Socialist. Even though it doesn’t seem like Bashar has done anything for his people he has actually completed some helpful tasks, for example he was very successful at making changes in the ranks in the Syrian institution and in response to the violence he wants to foster national dialogue and prosper a new constitution, though I honestly don’t think that’ll happen because of his lack of keeping his promises. In addition I believe that Bashar is a very independent man because of how he thinks that the American air strikes aren’t helping at all.

Dictators, i learned many things about dictatorship, lets first talk about is dictatorship good or bad?. It really depends on the dictator and what they desire. For example Tran Dai Quang, one of the top leaders in Vietnam. Being a new dictator he didn’t do much but he did attend many meetings and ceremonies and eventually got a few awards. Proving that not all dictators can be bad, a dictator can be bad or good depending on who that person is and what they want. Being a dictator you get a lot of power, absolute power, with that much power they can do anything they want either its good or bad and no one can stop them. With that power they can control the country and even the people, for example the leader of North Korea, their leader controls everything, like for example internet, which is a very important thing in our lives. but there’s also a good part about dictatorship, with absolute power a dictator can change an issue immediately. And with absolute power a dictator can become very powerful. For example Napoleon Bonaparte, he became very powerful and formed the biggest army, he was fearless and very confident. He destroyed many countries, and Napoleon crown himself as emperor. He also did many things to improve his country, by improving the roads and by gaining lots of grounds. with all this my opinion to dictatorship is that it can be both good or bad it just depends on the person who is claim to be the dictator. this concludes my thoughts and opinions about dictators and dictatorship

I personally believe that Napolean and Kim Jong Un are very different, Napolean has some positives to his reigns, such as Napolean improving the economic conditions of the lower and middle class, while in Kim Jong Un’s case, he has done nothing positive, he has killed many people, including his uncle, which he threw into a cage full of hungry dogs, and not to mention all the prisoners he tortures and eventually kills, by natural causes or by outside forces. Napolean on the other hand, started wars for the good of their own country, and the people that died were mostly soldiers, Kim Jong Un is a complete tyrant, while Napolean wasn’t completely evil, he just wanted the best for his country, even if he still ruled with an iron fist. Napolean was still evil, don’t get me wrong, but compared to Kim Jong Un he just doesn’t compare. Napolean cared for his people, Kim Jong Un doesn’t care, he just cares for himself and anyone that gets in the way will be shot down, even if they’re really close to him.
Dictatorships are bad in my opinion, I believe that the person in charge shouldn’t fear the people, I think that the person in charge should fear the people, though on a level where it isn’t very noticeable. Dictatorships shouldn’t be a way to rule over people.

  • Yuki Sato

Is dictatorship good or bad? I think neither, as it really depends on the person that is the dictator. For example, Hamad bin Isa al Khalifa, the dictator of Bahrain, he has been good to the people of Bahrain. He has granted the rights of women, and has freed political prisoners. The point of all this is that it can’t be determined that it is bad. It all depends on how the person that is the dictator exercises his power. I think that dictatorships can be a good thing, for example, decisions can be made much faster with one person, rather than discussing it with a whole group of people with different ideas and opinions. Also, any government, democracy based or not, will make bad decisions, so democracy based or not, it doesn’t prove that neither advance to Another example is that having a dictator will help the economy. Having elections is very expensive, and the money used for electrons could be used for more important things such as housing for homeless, calamity assistance, and developing the country more with things like building new or more roads, or helping developing cities. The only problem that I would think would be a challenge for the country, is that if the country was to have a bad dictator. Take a look at north korea for example, their leader doesn’t even let the country have internet, a very useful thing for education and jobs. He controls the entire country that he seems fit, which doesn’t fit. This concludes my ideas and thoughts about dictators and dictatorships.

A Dictator is a ruler who has total power over a country and has obtained power by force. King of Jordan, King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein, and Napoleon Bonaparte are both dictators. King Abdullah II has committed himself to create a strong and positive country in the world. He has worked towards a lasting solution to the Arab-Israeli problem. The King is now further establishing democratic and political coexistence in Jordan. He has applied a large effort to ensure economic growth and social development, to improve the living standards of Jordanians, under the King Abdullah II’s leadership Jordan has experienced the best growth of any country in the area. The King has also been working towards modernizing information technology and educational systems in Jordan. King Abdullah II has been working on the improvement of civil liberties, making Jordan one of the most progressive countries in the Middle East. He is also involved in getting women a full role in the Kingdom’s political, economic, and social life. When he was crowned king he decided to test Jordan’s public services and public health programs, so he went out dressed as an old man, a television reporter, and a taxi driver to see for himself. Napoleon Bonaparte was an artillery officer before he named himself emperor. He crowned himself Emperor of France in 1804. He was a follower of Rousseau and supported many ideas from the french Revolution. In 1793, he helped to recapture the city of Toulon from anti-revolutionary forces, and he became one of the youngest generals in the army. Napoleon won many wars in the beginning of his career and lost many at the end. He established new universities and schools, built new harbors and canals, rebuilt and improved French roads, he also kept the price of food staples low. But Napoleon did not create a strong French economy, all the new jobs were created by war, they got their wealth by stealing the goods from the countries they captured and he filled museums with art and treasures he stole from other countries. I do not think dictators can be good or bad it depends on the person and how he hands the power.

Many dictators could have a bad reputation but people do not realize some of the good things they have done. The dictator I have chosen for my mini project is Abdel Fattah El-Sis. Abdel has contributed a good amount to his nation such as improving the education and jobs also creating a strong army for his nations protection. Another dictator that is criticized by many is Napoleon Bonaparte although he is mainly known for all his faults of wrongful war, he has done some good aswell such as making food prices lower and built better travel roads for the people and his army. Napoleon and Abdel do not want want to be bad rulers/presidents the just do not think of their actions before doing them which has lead them to their mistakes.
Abdel is mainly known for his faults as a ruler that is most likely why he is hated by his people and capital. Abdel has many wrongs such as when he overthrew President Morsi, his troops had a blood bath with the many Morsi protesters 1,400 dead and 1,600 detained and he created an army that is extremely loyal to him which is frightening for the people. Abdel is not the only president/ruler to have done wrongs, Napoleon also has many faults, such as cutting trade off with Britain, always at war with some european countries, Napoleon never developed his economy it stayed the same sometimes it improved, was not fond of democracy and he overthrew the directory. Abdel and Napoleon are just two examples of dictators there are many throughout the world, many are bad but have done something good.
Dictatorships are bad because many dictators do not approve of democracy and do not care about the people that they are in control of

He is alot like napolean , both of killed alot of men in war except Omar has fought in his country against rebels. Dictators such as Omar are bad people but not all dictators are bad some could be good

Idriss Déby, born 1952 in Fada. Son of Sheperd, joined Chad’s armed forces in 1970. He became the president of Chad but also had the state in conflict. Him and Hissène Habré both were vying for the control of the government. Habré seized power in 1982, becoming president. Déby was then announced as commander in chief of the armed forces. The relationship with Déby and Habré went downhill from there. On April 1989, Déby was accused of overthrowing Habré’s government. Luckily, Déby formed a new government. (which he was the head of). Déby promised to end long-time lawlessness in Chad, but he failed at that task. Déby was reelected in 2001, but was boycotted by the country’s opposition. Again, was he reelected in 2011, and the same routine happened again. He was beset with charges of corruption. He and his administration was known for brutal repressing individual rights and freedoms. Years later, after the election in 2011, Déby was declared winner, receiving complaints of fraud from opposition members.

Dictator:A dictator is a person with total power over the county.Fact about dictator: All dictators have absolute power (Absolute power mean that people who have lots of power will abuse the power they have. Napoleon was recognized for being a good battle strategist and winning lots of fights for the french.Napoleon was promoted to be the military leader. He crowd him self as emperor of France in 1804 and he was forceful to other and also didn’t like woman’s rights. He also builded a new school and university and also a new hospital. When he was not emperor he was lonely, isolated and often poor. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was born on November,29,1955.he was elected to be the 8th president of Somalia on September,10,2012.Hassan was previously a university professor .He was the founder of the peace development party (PDP)

Think some dictators are bad because they abuse the power they have.

I think that most dictator are good because they use the power they have to make the place they like in better

Dictators are people who have absolute power or hold an autocratic grip on democracy. Many dictators today hold an autocratic grip on democracy rather than have absolute power, such as Paul Kagame. Paul Kagame is the sixth and current president of Rwanda. Like Napoleon, he was given command of the rebel force that ended the 1944 Rwandan Genocide. After that he served as Vice President and Minister of Defense from 1994-2000. He became president in 2000. He is now allowed to run for 3 additional terms, which also suggests a dictatorship. Also like Napoleon, Kagame limited free press and suppressed all opposition. Many critics of the president have “disappeared” in the past. However, Kagame has also done plenty of good for Rwanda. Rwanda has a well growing economy and things like health care and education are increasing. The number of Rwandans living in poverty decreased 6% in 10 years. Napoleon and Kagame have that in common too. Although, not all dictators are bad, dictatorship itself is bad. It takes away the power the people should have, and their freedom. Too much power isn’t good for anyone either. Somebody once said “Power tends to corrupt”. This is very true.

In my opinion dictators are people who are the captain or leader of the country or state because of the amount of power they have. In my eyes Dictators can be positive, negative or a bit of both. An example of them being positive is donating their time, money for education, or donating food or clothes, and etc. An example of a dictator being be negative, is disagreeing with the people and starting a war against the people of the country. Robert Gabriel Mugabe and Napoleon Bonaparte are the definition of dictators, because Robert Mugabe was the first president of Zimbabwe, this meant he had obsolete power over everyone and Napoleon Bonaparte crowned himself emperor of France and not only that he put his life and over 800,000 soldiers life in harm, because he wanted to be known as the best. From my perspective Robert Mugabe and Napoleon Bonaparte used their power very differently. Robert Mugabe did not use his power wisely. Robert Mugabe instead of encouraging equality, he instead declares war on white people. One of Robert Mugabe’s quote was “The only white man you can trust is a dead white man”. Robert Mugabe was then arrested for his political activities. He was arrested for 10 years. On the other hand Napoleon Bonaparte used his power to his advantage and very smartly. Napoleon Bonaparte used the knowledge and his power to serve and protect France. Napoleon always had the ambition to fight. Napoleon Bonaparte defeated the greatest empires of Europe that no one had ever done before. Napoleon could never say no, he always wanted to prove people wrong. Dictatorships are good because it gives you the right to make right decisions for your country, and to learn and experience new things. I feel like you should use your power wisely and smartly because if you use it recklessly you could get time in prison, fined. Its also good because you can represent your country or state proudly and be known as a good person.

A dictator is a person exercising absolute power, especially a ruler who has absolute, unrestricted control in a government without hereditary. Dictatorship is a country, government, or the form of a government which absolute, power is exercised by a dictator. The dictator that I chose is Hun Sen, prime minister on Cambodia.I’m also going to be taking about Napoleon Bonaparte.Ill be talking about their similarities, differences, positives and negatives.Hun Sen became prime minister in Cambodia in 1985. Napoleon Bonaparte crowned hime self emperor in 1804.Napoleon Bonaparte was a french military and political leader who rose to prominence during the french revolution and led several successful campaigns during the revolutionary wars.Napoleon helped bring a greater degree of religious tolerance to catholic France regarding protestantism and judaism he also display an uncommon respect for islam during his campaign in Egypt.Cons on Napoleon were that underneath it all he was incompetent at times, when he invaded Russia he failed to take in to account the winter of the region, which prevented him from conquering it.He was also sexist he favoured men over women.Hun sen is a good dictator but he didn’t really expose himself to the world and his people. What I learned about dictators is that some can be mean and some can be really nice.

The dictator I researched is Paul Kagame (president of Rwanda). He has a strong military and he used it to become even more powerful dictator. As we have learned about Napoleon, he as well has a very strong military that made him into a powerful dictator. However, every dictator have negative side;Kagame was accused of allowing human rights abuses and having political enemies killed. For instance, he should protect his people in order for them to support him. In my opinion, I think the people will probably not going to like it if their leader would not give them any rights for their protection, and the population might also decrease. Also, murdering political enemy is an absolute crime. In order to win politically, a politician must be fair to their opponent politician, and murdering them is an act of injustice. In my opinion, Napoleon is also unfair. He didn’t gave women fair rights as men, and I believed that everyone should be equal on human rights even if you are a man or woman. This dictator Paul Kagame is not a good leader the way he treat his people. However, Kagame did a few good things to improve the economy, education, and health care. If we would compare him to Napoleon, he actually had done better good things done him. Napoleon’s focus was just to expand the territory of his country. Eventually, after few years, the conquered land had not been part of France. Napoleon’s effort ended to be wasted, whereas Kagame did few improvements but end up to be worth it. Therefore, I think dictatorship is bad. Freedom is very important. Being able to hear what other people’s opinions to make things even better, being who they want to be and do whatever they like to do for themselves and not being controlled by a single person. Unfortunately, in dictatorship, freedom does not exist.

From my perspective I believe dictators are leaders who have absolute power over a country or state. Dictatorship means that a country, government or the form of government in which absolute power is exercised by a dictator. Napoleon crowned himself emperor in 1804 in France. Hun Sen rose to premiership in 1985 making them dictators. I feel that Napoleon used his power more effectively because in 1795 he ordered cannons to fire grape shots at point blank into the crowd to save the convention from the rebellious French citizens. Hun Sen is a good dictator but he doesn’t interact with the world as much as other leaders would. Therefore there’s nothing much about him. But recently he threatened force as tension. There’s been a lot of tension growing in the capital Phnom Penh. Navy ships and Chinese-made helicopters were deployed in a show of physical force. I like how he he doesn’t automatically use physically force . He uses intimidation first. In my opinion dictatorship is good because without a leader to look up to and to make or change laws our lives would be soon repetitive and boring. I’ve learned that dictators could be good or bad depending on the person because not everyone’s going to have the same thoughts and opinions.

A dictator is a ruler who has total power and control over a country. Dictatorship is a country governed by a ruler. Napoleon, a unique and ruthless leader who depended on war to get his way. Napoleon defeated his enemies and took over lands to gain power and control over many areas in europe using the might of his military force who he and them were loyal to each other having a strong bond. He didn’t believe in the rights of women in which he gave authority to the males of the families. Napoleon was led by his big ego, wanting all the power to himself also taking away democracy. He told his people what he would do as a ruler to make Europe a great country under his command, improving French lives in many different ways. Gaining the trust sharing his values to his people. He also used his power to put close friends and family members as monarchs in the lands he conquered. In comparison, Girma Wolde, the president of Ethiopian did not use much of his power but had a lot of government experience which led him to the position of the president of Ethiopia. A few events form his government experiences is, he became head of the Civil Aviation of the Federal Government of Eritrea in 1947. Became Director General of the Ministry of trade, industry and planning at the time of Establishments in 1961. Girma Wolde did as he could to develop Ethiopia into a better country. He also won a seat for the Ethiopian Parliament in the international Parliamentary Union. His experienced in government let him lead Ethiopia with skill and knowledge giving him a sense of how to run the country.

    ALEXANDER LUKASHENKO
Lukashenko is the current president of Belarus and he has been for 22
Years. He was the first and only president of Belarus.

Alexander is not a good president and is called a dictator by many western countries. When Belarus holds elections he always win. Belarus is called “The North Korea of Europe”. Belarus’s Economy is in tatters due to Alexander’s human right violations sanctions. He rules Belarus through fear. For example ,the Secret police of Belarus is still called the KGB.

If you were to compare Napoleon to Alexander Lukashenko. They’re some what alike and very different. Both Alexander and Napoleon likes to only hear positive things about them. Napoleon is intelligent and is respected. Alexander is not very respected, In 2015 there was an election and some protested because it was rigged.Thousands were arrested, some tortured, and a number of political prisoners were put on trial for protesting.

Belarus is the only European country that has a death penalty and is very dangerous for journalists. Many people who are against Lukashenko has been silenced. Lukashenko has made Belarus’s economy even worse than ever , due to sanctions.

In conclusion ,Belarus is a very bad country and Alexander Lukashenko is very terrible man and leader. Belarus is known for Europe’s last dictatorship. Lots of people are sick in Belarus and Alexander isn’t doing much to help his own people.Belarus gets economy support from Russia. Alexander is afraid to make an independent economy because it will endanger his power over the country. So once again Alexander is a terrible president and isn’t very smart at running his
    country.

Xi Jinping is the leader of the communist party of China, to the outer world he is seen as a dictatorship even if the call themselves democratic. The Communist party of China is very limited with its seat of its council (Politburo Standing Committee) and has less competition, the CCP have a monopoly on China political power. This state of government is similar to what Napoleon had he had no competition for his power and had supreme rule. I see both of them as dictators which they were, but both of them have the good and the bad. First we need to know what is a dictator, a person exercising absolute power. To me, Napoleon was still a good dictator he had not just given France military victory he created university and gave education, but also he took away power and rights away from women. Xi Jinping, he tried to take away corruption in China and hoped to make it successful, all though he gave basic democracy to people from the village he didn’t do much else and people lost the right of freedom of speech. He also didn’t care much about China’s education system unlike Napoleon. I still think even if some dictatorship have the good and the bad most people still want democracy its more fair that way but still the communist party still had much support like Napoleon rule. They Both were also the sons of political leaders and I think this has to do a lot of how the were influenced by politics and why they want to rule. Both of these dictators had much failures both of them exercised their power and miss used it which led with Napoleon losing his support and Xi Jinping ruining his economy. To me Napoleon was a better ruler he cared more about his subject and still exercised his power to help people.

Napoleon bonaprte compared to Pierre Nkurnziza the president of Burundi, there are not al ot of similar things. One of the similar things are that they both fought in war’s. Pierre Nkurunziza is more educated than Napoleon.Pierre Nkurniza is still president scince 2005.He was really closed to getting killed by the Tut SI army in a shootout. With Napeloen he was way diiferent. His father died in 1785. Napeoleon was changing so many things. Napoleon was taking over contries with war’s. Napeoleon also crowned himself emperor. He was destroying contries he was like changing al of Europe. The similarities between these two are that they are emporos basically. Napeoleon was empror of france and and Pierre Nkurniza is president of Burundi. There aren’t many simialrities betwwen these two. Napeoleon was changing the world and Pierre Nkurunziza is president of Burundi

Dictators are rulers wielding absolute power no one could rival.Society views dictators as ruthless and inhumane people using their power for their own desires rather than for the good of the people.Although some dictators are more than bad such as the current president of Cuba, Raul Castro. He became acting president 18 months early when his brother was incapacitated by ill health. He executed his brother Fidel Castro orders and enemies ruthlessly, but he eased some restrictions on personal freedom just like Napoleon who fought for the people and their freedom.Raul Castro was viewed as a good minister by the people. The people seemed to have grown attached to Raul Castro and his motives. His way of running the country with an iron fist might be harsh, but his countrymen respects him,his laws and his authorities of running their country. He also puts his people first for example when there was an economic crisis he substantially cut the size of the army to provide some rations for his nation. In my personal opinion dictators are suitable rulers, but democracy is the best form of government although it has flaws and problems, our active participation could counter all of this flaws.
