Solving equations with one unknown. Khan Academy.
I have booked room 303 – ask around for a key (or at the office)! The students have a khanacademy login. The link above is the concept for these 2 days while I am away. Please do a paper based checkup and encourage them to work by paper beside their computers. There may also be an option to use the MAC’s in room 103. Ask Ben King if this is better…
STEM 9 Science
The concept of equilibrium can be explored. It is a physics 11 topic.
First, have students make a mobile with many levels. Tie this concept into the math equation solving. Even hang different things or signs that have equation concepts on. Materials for this can be wood, wire, straws, anything, really…

I would assign groups of 2 to research and create a cool balancing act. They may not use the forks. That is mine (or yours!) Please set it up for them.

Hopefully, discussion will turn to center of gravity, design of wheels, rides at the PNE…
Although I have booked the lab (last period on Tuesday/Thursday — not sure about the right time), this class is flexible and so, I rarely split the day into a specific Math or Science time. The goal is a deep understanding of the science and math behind equilibrium and equation solving and how they relate. Do you know Free Body Diagrams? Please teach it!
