Hey gang – I am away for the whole week with Mini-school (Bamfield)
IDS11 – 309 – You are all working this week on your 5 class independent study. You have been away but get back into the groove. On your blog, you have posted your idea. Next, post your schedule with what you expect (hope) to accomplish each class. On class #6 be prepared to present. Each day, in the last 10 minutes, create a post with evidence of what you learned or attempted to learn that day.
ICTX11-12 (Scratch) You have 3 days to make an AWESOME game. Many in the class have used scratch last year. There are experts around you. Ask for help. Use the website for scratch. What do I expect? Action, sound, levels, keyboard or mouse control, instructions, custom drawings and backgrounds. Gr12 will be marked harder than gr11 of course. Your final product will be uploaded to the scratch website in Boston and you will create a link-teaser on your blog to entice people to come a play your game.
BE8 rotation – (Tuesday-Thursday) Project #1 is to complete your excellent Magazine cover. It will look professional and be marked in two ways. Export a .jpg and post to your blog. Also, when I return we will print to the colour printer and put your work up in a display case so all your friends can see you great work!
Project #2 – Log into Google drive and create a new document. Only one person per group of 3 needs to do this. The owner then can SHARE the doc to others in the group. Notice how you can ALL write on the document if it is shared for editing? Good. After exploring this, here is your project. Write a script for a news interview. We will be filming your “play” in the green room next and then creating a movie with special effects. Topics for your news interview “play”? I would approach my other teachers and ask if I could do it in French, a sports one for PE, maybe something for SS8? I would be good to make one project and get marks for 2 courses!
DI Sc8 (Tues-Thurs) Congrats to all on successfully being experts on the microscope (except for Prava and Harleen who ditched Simran). I realize that Mon,Wed Fri you are all on the most excellent fieldtrip to UBC. Sorry I could not join you! First class on wednesday, you need to leave with a quality understanding of the parts of a cell. Use the textbook from moodle (pdf) and the workbook downloads. There are some amazing videos. Watch and share. The teacher will help to facilitate your learning. I’m not sure if you will get to learning what all the parts do (functions) but by the end of NEXT class, this is your goal. On the Monday back, I will give you parts of the cell and you will have to recognize what the are and what they do. Perhaps a hands on test with cutout paper parts? Maybe a blank piece of paper and you draw it and label. Be prepared. Another resource is the bill nye video found here (available at school).
