The period we are talking about is the 1900’s when science and technology first started to develop more and more and people started to believe in science more than the statement of the church. More and more discoveries were made, and most of them were advantageous for mankind. Most of the discoveries came so fast, that understanding was often incomplete, hence, facts were often mixed with fiction, stirring the people’s attention.

Science excited people because they were able to discover many diseases , the cause of disease and also was able to create many medicines that could help people. Scientists also were able to see microorganisms such as germs ( was called animacules in 1860 ) . But it also frightened them because of the discoveries of other diseases that had no cure because of incomplete research. Discoveries came so fast that many ideas were new, that understanding was often incomplete because of the excitement that science had brought to other people.

In the 19th century, there were diseases, such as, cholera, typhoid, influenza, small pox and tuberculosis, etc. Since there were little knowledge of diseases and hygiene doctors were infecting patients. Doctors operated without cleaned or washed instruments and sometimes would even use their hands. Because of the doctors operating without being clean, were infecting the patients. New types of germs or bacteria would be invading the patients body that was being operated on, which resulted in the patient having a new type of disease. But soon a scientist came along and discovered that bacilli was causing many disease. He used carbolic acid to vaccinate people against diseases.

In the nineteenth century many discoveries were found by scientist, and soon enough scientists looked into diseases and there origins. Also scientists found ways to look further than the regular eye by discovering Antibiotics,X-rays,Aspirins and vitamins which were very beneficial.

  • Doctors in early 1800’s had very little knowledge about deseases than they thought they knew. Many people died because of their carelessness in the operation room. After the discovery of new germs and deseases, many people hoped that scientist will soon find a cure. These discoveries made many scientist eager to gain more knowledge about them. Eventually these discoveries were passed all over the world by news papers.

Science was exciting people because medicine was evolving so fast. Scientist had made new discoveries and cures that helped people from terrible diseases get better. People had thought that such diseases couldn’t be cured and when the scientist and inventors had made cures it seemed magical. Even though back in the day they weren’t so clean and that also lead to death from infections inside the body while doing surgery and giving birth and all that, it was still a step up from people dying and not having such a long period of time to live.

Science excited people and discoveries came so fast, and many ideas were so new. I think science excited people but it also scared them. Scientists were coming up with things so fast the people did not know what was going on around them. Even if people knew what was happening they did not know if it was true or not. Therefore, science was exciting and scary at the same time.

“Science excited people…” but it also made people afraid. As few people didn’t have much reliable resources back then, but people in the cities where more informed than the people in isolated areas.

“Discoveries came so fast, and many ideas were so new…” But most of it wasn’t understood correctly, as where scientists were debating on finding the origins of diseases.

Science excited people because back then many people were very religious so they only believed in what the church was teaching so when they weer introduced to science they were excited about it. Before there was science they didn’t really know how to treat diseases but with science they were able to experiment and create medicine.
