JO Track & Field 2018

JO students,

If you would like to be a member of the JO Track & Field team, please visit the Track & Field page above or see Ms. Matheson in the south gym for more info. No experience is needed and we don’t cut athletes so everyone can participate (as long as you come to practice and maintain your standing academically in your classes). You can also choose whether you want to run, jump or throw (or do a combo of these).

A tentative meet schedule is posted on the T&F page.

First light practice is Thursday, March 1st after school (we have gym space if weather is really bad). I’ll post the weekly schedules on this blog each Sunday night.

All commitment & medical forms MUST be handed in to Ms. Matheson by Thursday March 15th. If you are a playing on another JO team this season, you can also compete in T&F.  You do not pay the T&F athletic fee of $50. You just have to pay the fee of your other sport (to the other sponsor).

GO JOKERS!

Wrestling skills for Friday Feb. 23rd

Grade 8’s, here are the wrestling skills you will be asked to show me on Friday, Feb 23rd (skill assessment). We have practiced all of these in class. You can choose your partner and he/she will be doing passive defense. I am assessing for offence only (remembering the skill, good technique, quick moves).

From Referee’s Position

Far Arm – Near Leg:

  • Hands/weight on partner
  • Block near leg
  • Grab far arm (tricep) under chin
  • Grab near leg/knee
  • Pull arm/leg toward you
  • Drive partner over/expose the back

Cross Face 2 on 1

  • Block near leg
  • Your left forearm cross partner’s face at chin and grab far arm (tricep)
  • Right arm under partner’s chest and also grabs partner’s far arm

  • Drive partner over/expose the back

  • Your near hand under partner’s near arm pit and onto back of neck
  • Lift partner’s near shoulder and push/drive partner away from you/expose his/her back. Don’t go to far over or partner will push you over and cause a reversal.

Snow Tubing Field Trip Feb 22nd

Below is the information for the grade 8’s who are attending the Winter Field Trip at Cypress Mountain (tubing) on Thursday, February 22nd.

Itinerary:  busses arrive and we are leaving JO at 8:15am!!! Do not be late!

Activities: 10:00 – 1:20 activities (tubing and lunch). 1:30 pm leave Cypress Mnt.

Please check the weather report (604-419-7669) or via the website https://www.theweathernetwork.com/ca/forecasts/ski-and-snow/british-columbia/cypress-mountain) for conditions up Cypress the night berfore so you can prepare accordingly.

CLOTHING: Warm winter clothing (layers are great) and waterproof jackets and footwear are important. This means wearing a toque, waterproof gloves or mitts, snow pants and winter boots. If you don’t have these, then rain boots with warm socks and a rain jacket and pants with warm layers underneath will work.

LUNCH/FOOD: There is a snack shack up there, but the prices are inflated and the line-ups can be too. We recommend packing your own lunch. There is a warming hut with tables for anyone to eat their lunch.  We won’t be able to leave anything on the bus, so pack lightly in a backpack you can place with other packs in the snow. We recommend you bring an extra shirt, pants and socks to wear on the bus ride down the mountain.

Don’t forget water in a water bottle.
