Silhouettes at Sunset

On Groundhog Day, Division 12 explored the concept of shadows.  We created these sunset silhouettes using water colours to paint a sunset background and black cut outs to create our shadows.  The results demonstrate how beautiful shadows can be!

Happy Chinese New Year!

Tomorrow, January 28th, is the Lunar New Year.  Division 12 celebrated Chinese New Year with Mrs. Lee today.  We painted the Chinese character for good luck and we read a story about a runaway wok!  We also made a special treat that Mrs. Lee and her family eats during Chinese New Year: fried rice!!  Mrs. Lee sent home the recipe for parents who want to try for themselves.  Gong Hay Fat Choy!  Happy New Year!

Fun in the Snow

Division 12 took advantage of the beautiful weather and spent a fun morning catching snowflakes and painting in the snow.  We tried to observe the snow crystals, but snow is very difficult to catch!  Some of us managed to catch a few small flakes and look at them under the magnifying glass.  We had a much better time painting the snow with food colouring. We had a great outdoor exploration time in the snow!

Skating

Division 12 had a wonderful time skating at Hillcrest this afternoon.  Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to walk us over to the rink and tie up our skates!  It was a busy job, but we all had so much fun! Enjoy!

Baking Gingerbread Boys

Wishing everyone a safe and restful holiday!  See you in 2017!

Polar Express Day

All aboard!  Division 12 had lots of fun on our own Polar Express train today.  A conductor (who looked a lot like a certain principal we know) greeted us as we boarded in our PJs and punched our tickets.   We made polar snowflakes and we had hot chocolate.  It was a fun day!

Winter Evening Town Mural

Division 12 has created a night time mural of a town, inspired by our reading of “The Polar Express”.  Perhaps this town might resemble one of the many magical towns the children saw from the Polar Express windows on their way to the North Pole!

Q.E. Park – Late Fall Nature Walk

Division 12 had a wonderful walk to Q.E. Park this morning.  We saw many signs of fall, including bare trees, colorful leaves, and even a fallen tree.  We think that perhaps lightening or wind blew it down!  We will look forward to seeing the changes in nature as we visit the park next time!

A big thank you to all the moms who joined us on this refreshing but chilly walk this morning!
