Halloween Fun

Division 12 visited Halloween today!  We made some fun spider decorations with our big buddies, we carved our pumpkin and counted the seeds (did you know our pumpkin had over 100 seeds??) we had a hot dog lunch, and a Halloween dance!  We even had a pumpkin raffle at the end of the day!  Have a safe a fun Halloween everyone!

Halloween Celebrations

On Friday, October 30, Livingstone will celebrate Halloween. Students may wear a costume if they wish.  We often suggest student wear some regular clothes under their costumes, as they can become hot or itchy as the day goes by.  Alternatively, students can bring a change or clothes.  There will be a dance from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm for the primary students, with our own Mr. Mitzel as DJ.  Parents are welcome to join us in the gym if you wish to join the festivities.

On Friday, there will be a free hot dog lunch provided by the PAC. Students can also bring extra snacks and lunch if they need more food.  Please email Mrs. Lee if you have any questions.

Richmond Nature Park Fieldtrip

Division 12 had a wonderful time enjoying the fall season on our nature walk today.  We observed the changing leaves, collected (and released) insects that live in the nature park, and played in the bog (it feels like a trampoline!).  We also got to visit with a friendly garden snake and some of us even gently petted it!  It was very fun.  We look forward to visiting the nature park in the next season!!

Fieldtrip Tomorrow October 27

This is a reminder to all parents that Division 12 will be going to the Richmond Nature Park tomorrow from 9:15 am to 12:30 pm.

Please help your child dress for the weather, as we will spend most of our tour outdoors.  Please send a small portable snack with your child for the trip.  We will return for a late lunch, so please send your child with their usual lunch box as well.  Those will be kept in the classroom until we return.

Thank you!

D.E.A.R. Day

Today was D.E.A.R. – “Drop Everything and Read” Day at our school.  At 11 am, everybody “dropped everything” and read in the hallways!  It was great to see everyone enjoying books!

2 PM Dismissal Wednesday and Thursday

Mrs. Lee and Ms. Chu will be having our goal-setting conferences with parents this Wednesday and Thursday, October 21 and 22.  Children will be dismissed at 2 PM on both days.  Please remember to bring your goal-setting forms to the meeting.  Children do not need to attend this meeting.  We are looking forward to seeing you all!

Capturing Number 5

Division 12 was asked to capture a photograph of ‘five’ using our iPads today.  Here are some shots from our young mathematicians/photographers. (We are still working on focusing at times, but overall, it was a fabulous first effort!)

Mobile Dairy Classroom

Division 12 had a visit from some very special farmers today. They are dairy farmers and they brought their dairy cow and a baby calf with them! We learned that dairy cows can eat up to 2000 lbs of silage and grains per day! The dairy cows give milk after they have a baby. The milk is for their baby, but they make enough milk that humans can share some. Did you know a baby calf can drink very fast – one suck per second! To get the rest of the milk the farmers use a machine that pumps the milk from their udders. It was very fun to meet the cows!

Richmond Nature Park Fieldtrip

Division 12 will be going on a fieldtrip on Tuesday October 27th to attend a Changing of the Seasons workshop at the Richmond Nature Park.  Fieldtrip forms went home today.  Please complete and return the fieldtrip form by Tuesday, October 20.  Thank you!

Pumpkins, Pumpkins, Pumpkins!

Division 12 had a wonderful time at the Westham Island Pumpkin Patch this morning. We got a tour of the farm and saw a variety of animals including goats, chickens, cows and pigs!  Some of us even saw the sleeping owls that were resting high up in the barn rafters.  And of course we picked our pumpkins!  It was a muddy job, but we all did it!  We will be decorating our pumpkins at school and bringing them home for the Thanksgiving weekend.  Enjoy!
