Vancouver School Board Employees Picnic, 1931

During the 1930s, Bowen Island, located at the entrance to Howe Sound, was a popular destination for Vancouverites. A hotel was located there, along with picnic grounds which could accommodate large groups. A ferry service from Vancouver, brought visitors to Bowen Island. The largest ship – the Lady Alexandra, could accommodate 1400 passengers.

The group photo shows VSB employees, along with many of their children, celebrating a picnic there on Friday, July 03,  shortly after the end of the school year.
