HOME READING PROGRAM

THE IMPORTANCE OF READING

Reading at home makes a huge difference in your child’s success!  I am encouraging your child to make reading a part of his/her daily routine.

The goal is for your child to read or be read to as often as he/she can.  Given how busy families are with extra-curricular activities, I know it can be tough to fit in reading during the school week.  Read when you can!  Children can fall in love with reading in so many ways:  bedtime stories, comic books, stories on CDs, kids’ magazines, non-fiction, fiction, chapter books, poems, joke books, etc.  The sky’s the limit!

While Home Reading is NOT mandatory, please know that students who put in the extra time and effort will be rewarded!

INDIVIDUAL STUDENT GOALS:
Every time your child has read or has been read to, just simply initial the dates on the MONTHLY CALENDAR in your child’s agenda.  On the first day of every month, I will check the students’ agendas to see who has read 20 (or more) days during the previous month.  Those students will get a small prize from me!

e.g. On November 1st, I will check to see who has 20+ parent initials for the month of October.  Those who do will get a small reward from me!

The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more than you learn, the more places you’ll go.
