BEFORE NOVEMBER 6

Part 1 – Confirmation of Participation – Go to this link and complete the short survey to confirm your participation and where you are going on this day. Ask your parents/ guardian or friends’ parents/guardian if they have a place you can go.
Due: Tuesday, October 22, 3:15pm

If you do not have a place to go for Take Our Kids To Work Day, you must come to school that day and do an alternate assignment.

Part 2 – Workplace Safety – Read this handout on Workplace Safety, Rights and Responsibilities and then complete the online quiz.
Due: Tuesday, October 22, 3:15pm

Part 3 – Consent Form – Have your parent/guardian complete and sign the consent form. Please return the form to me by placing it in the tray labeled “Career Ed 9” just inside Room 138.

ON NOVEMBER 6

Part 4 – Go out and enjoy your day on November 6th! Remember you are an ambassador of Magee so conduct yourself with the same standard of behaviour that you display at school. During your day, make sure you get answers to the following questions:
a – About the host organization – Where you went and some details about the organization/ workplace (e.g., what do they do, how big is it (# of employees), types of jobs there)
b – About the host – What does your host do? What level of education is needed for their job? What skills do they use to do their job well? How did they develop those skills?
c – Photo time – Please take a selfie of yourself at the workplace. It can be in front of the main entrance, it can be at a desk you sat at, etc. Please ask permission before you do this.

Part 5 – Written Reflection of Your Day – Write a one to two page reflection (typed, double spaced, 12 pt font) on your experience. Your reflection would include what you learned about:
– the workplace you visited including details about the organization
– your host’s job (and was it what you thought it would be like?)
– the special skills and training people who work there need and use
– the general skills (e.g., punctual, communication, team work, etc.) that people who worked there need and use
– which of these general skills you think you have already
– which of these general skills that you want to develop or improve
– one thing that you learned from this experience that you think will help you when looking at careers for yourself in the future

AFTER NOVEMBER 6

Hand in:
Your reflection
A picture of you at the work place
A picture of a thank you note that you will write and give to your host – thank them for allowing you to job shadow them and tell them at least one thing that you learned from the experience.
