Thursday, January 17 – Field trip – Junior Achievement BC Techworks Conference showcasing the scope of technology-related career opportunities open to the next generation of employees. Takes place at The Nest, UBC (Day 1)
You will receive a name tag and lanyard, green t-shirt, and a swag bag. You are encouraged to bring your own water bottle. There are filling stations located in the building. Please note that all students must check coat and backpack so it’s probably best that you leave your backpack at school. You don’t really need it there. However, if you really want to bring your backpack, they will give you a plastic bag to put your jacket and backpack in. You will be given a tag and can retrieve your belongings at the end of the day. Keep your phone with you though. You will need it for the morning session.
After the morning session in the Great Hall, you will pick up a boxed lunch. If you indicated dietary restrictions or food allergy on your online registration, you should go to the table marked as special lunch boxes to pick up your lunch.
After lunch, you will go to three breakout sessions, as per the schedule above. The sessions that you are registered for should be listed on your name tag. You only have 10 minutes to go between sessions so please head straight from one to another session. The transition times are also the times to go for washroom breaks.
After the third session, you will go back to the Great Hall for the closing comments and door prizes. After the conference officially closes, you can go to Coat Check to pick up your jacket and backpack.
As with every field trip, please ensure that you bring the Magee spirit of excellent behaviour with you at all times. The speakers are professionals but most of them are experienced in whatever their job is in technology, not in public speaking necessarily, so please make them feel as comfortable as possible by looking at them and listening attentively.
