Explore Alberta: A Journey of Discovery for John Oliver Secondary Students
John Oliver Secondary is excited to offer Grade 8 and 9 students a once-in-a-lifetime 4-5 day overnight trip through the stunning landscapes and vibrant cities of Alberta, including Calgary, Banff, and Drumheller. This immersive experience will feature engaging academic workshops hosted by students and faculty at the University of Calgary, where our students will explore real-world applications of science, technology, and the arts in a university setting. These sessions are designed to ignite curiosity and inspire future academic and career aspirations.
A highlight of the trip includes a visit to the world-renowned Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller, where students will come face-to-face with awe-inspiring dinosaur fossils and cutting-edge paleontological research. In Calgary, they’ll dive into Canada’s musical heritage at Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre, where interactive exhibits and performances will bring the power of music to life. These experiences combine education with excitement, offering students a deeper understanding of history, science, and culture.
To round out the adventure, students will attend and participate in local performances that showcase Alberta’s rich artistic and cultural communities. Whether it’s theatre, music, or storytelling, these events will foster a greater appreciation for the arts and community engagement. This trip promises to be a powerful blend of learning, exploration, and inspiration—an unforgettable journey that will broaden horizons and build lasting memories. Let’s support our students in making this incredible opportunity a reality!
