Clubs

At John Oliver Secondary, our clubs program offers students exciting opportunities to explore their passions beyond the classroom, with two standout options being Drumline and Music Production. These clubs are vibrant, hands-on experiences that could be offered as credit courses, but due to current enrollment numbers, they are run as extracurriculars. We strongly encourage students to consider selecting these as courses in future years to ensure they continue to grow and thrive as part of our curriculum.

The Drumline Club is a high-energy ensemble where students develop their stick control and rudimental drumming skills while performing in a variety of exciting events. From community parades and school pep rallies to regional and provincial drumline championships, students get to showcase their talents in dynamic, crowd-pleasing routines. Each year, members collaborate to design performances that are flashy, exciting, and full of school spirit—making Drumline a highlight of the school’s musical and cultural life.

In the Music Production Club, students dive into the world of digital music creation using Ableton Live 12 Intro in our computer lab. They learn the fundamentals of recording, producing, and mixing music, as well as DJing with industry-standard equipment. Whether you’re interested in creating beats, remixing tracks, or spinning live sets, this club offers a professional-level introduction to the music industry. Students who are passionate about music technology are encouraged to enroll in this as a course in the future to deepen their skills and gain academic credit for their creative work.
