Sciences 9

The BC Science 9 curriculum builds on what students learned in Sciences 8 and goes further into depth in units on Biology, Physics and Chemistry. There is a small Ecology component included in the curriculum which will also be taught however we don’t go into much depth due to the Ecology class offered here at Kitsilano.

This year, we are shifting away from grading using percentages and are assessing students on the curricular competences using a four-level rubric: Emerging, Developing, Proficient, and Extending. Each assignment will be linked with specific curricular competencies and content. Students will be evaluated based on their proficiency and given formative feedback on how they can improve. The goal for the end of the year is to have all students proficient in the major curricular competencies.

For an overview of the competencies I will be evaluating for Sciences 9, you can see the following document: SBG Competencies Sciences 9

Evaluation of assignments in this course will be accessible via the MyEd Student Family Portal.

In accordance with current assessment practices at Kitsilano, students will be assigned a letter grade at the end of each term. This grade will be agreed upon between myself and the student in a short meeting before the end of term, after reviewing assignments, quizzes and tests done throughout the term.

Your child will have brought home a syllabus to be signed at the start of the year. You can access an additional digital copy of the syllabus below.
