Sciences 8

The BC Science 8 curriculum offers an exciting look into the major domains of science. We complete units around Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Earth Sciences.

This year, we are shifting away from grading  and are assessing students on the curricular competences using a four-level rubric: Emerging, Developing, Proficient, and Extending. Each assignment will be linked with specific curricular competencies and content. Students will be evaluated based on their proficiency and given formative feedback on how they can improve. The goal for the end of the year is to have all students proficient in the major curricular competencies.

For an overview of the competencies I will be evaluating for Sciences 8, you can see the following document: SBG 8

Evaluations of assignments for this course will be accessible via the MyEd Student Family Portal.

In accordance with current assessment practices at Kitsilano, students will be assigned a letter grade at the end of each term. This grade will be agreed upon between myself and the student in a short meeting before the end of term, after reviewing assignments, quizzes and tests done throughout the term.

Your child will have brought home a syllabus to be signed at the start of the year. You can access an additional digital copy of the syllabus below.
