About Mr. Pavao

Welcome to my blog!

In my first year as Vice Principal at Prince of Wales Secondary School, I bring three years of Summer School Adminisration and ten years of teaching experience (teaching Physical Education, Social Studies and Leadership) to my new home and look forward to the experiences and opportunities that lie ahead.

I am interested in furthering public education and providing students and staff with the support, knowledge and resources to be successful in learning–its a life long approach.  I enjoy collaborating with staff on project based learning, utilizing technology to enhance educational practice and experiences, and providing students with opportunities to pursue their interests as we make learning personal, engaging and authentic.

Outside of the traditional classroom, I am a huge advocate and supporter of extra-curricular activities (athletics, fine arts, clubs and school events) and encourage students to find ther passion and follow thieir passion–it will bring the best out of them and hopefully provide them with skills, opportunities and experiences that will lead them to making a positive difference in the world they live in.

When I’m not at work I like to spend time in recreational activities and pursuits with my family and friends.  A total sports fan, I still play ice hockey, volleyball and softball.  My amazing family consists of my wife (Claudia) and my two awesome children–Elizabeth and Christopher.  We can usually be found on the weekends at the park, on our bikes, or any place that’s great for family time and allows me to play “Super Dad”.

A personal philosophy of Kaizen, a Japanese term meaning “constant improvement’, I strive to be the best that I can be in all aspects of my life and try to encourage, support, model and inspire those I come in contact with to do the same.  I try to make a positive difference in the lives I come in contact with while challenging others to pursue their dreams.  One of my favourite quotes is “A mind once stretched by a new idea never regains its original dimensions.”

Thanks for visiting my blog, I look forward to teaching/working with all of you this year.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at the school:  604-713-8974 ext. 5493 or by  work email: jpavao@vsb.bc.ca . Here’s to another great year,

 Mr. John Pavao
