Starting June 1st: Voluntary return to class

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all doing well and staying healthy in these unprecedented times…and yes it has been announced that schools will be open for students starting June 1st.

  • The important thing to remember is:  this is voluntary only!
  • You are not required to attend if you, or your parents/guardians, do not wish to attend.

The classes are only about one hour in length and will be similar to a tutorial for students who need help with their online assignments only.  If you do not attend, you continue on with the online assignments as per usual.

In order to manage how many people are in the building, you will be scheduled to come to my class on specific dates and times as emailed out today.

Do not attend a class you are not designated to go to…you will not be allowed in.  There will be time  scheduled later in June for textbook collection.  So, please keep checking the district site, JO site, your emails and the HW blog for announcements as things progress.

If you are planning to attend, please be sure to bring any/all items that you will need including devices and textbooks.  Supplies will not be available for students who forget items.

Health and Safety information:

  • If you are sick, stay home.
  • When you come to the school, you must enter through the doors by the MAIN GYM.
  • When you arrive to class, you must wash your hands in the classroom or use hand sanitizer that will be provided.
  • Half of our class will attend at one time to allow for physical distancing within the classroom. I’ll remind everyone about what this looks like when we’re together.
  • You will not be permitted to use your locker, so please bring all of your needed materials. You will also need to take them home with you at the end of the class.
  • At the end of your scheduled time, you must exit the school through the FRONT DOORS.
  • Students are not permitted to stay at the school throughout the day unless you have been invited by a staff member.
  • Masks are not required, but those who choose to wear one may do so.

If you have any questions about this, please let me know.

What about my grades for Term 3? Am I going to pass the course?

OK…grades…everyone is worried about their grades.

This is what has been proposed…remember, the situation is fluid, which means things are constantly changing, so things may change in the future.

In my courses your grades are already calculated cumulatively so you know where you stand for the year.  You will fit into one of two categories:

First category:

  • If you were attending and doing your work in my class you should already be passing the course at the end of Term 2.
  • Good news – your grade will stand as long as you continue to complete assignments during Term 3.
  • Congratulations…you will pass the year as long as you keep working.

Second category:

  • If you received an “I REPORT” on your report card (Term 1 and/or Term 2)…you are not passing the course.
  • The work that you do from the end of Spring Break to the end of Term 3 is going to be crucial…that means you must complete your assignments in a timely manner, you must do them well because you must bring your grades up.
  • You need to work hard in the coming weeks!
  • You need to convince and prove to your teacher that you learned what you needed to learn in the course in order to get a pass…only then will you receive a passing grade for the year.
