DW: Gratitude
Compose two poems from the choice of three:
- Concrete/Blackout Poem
- Title Poem
- Texting Couplets Poem
Alternative choice: If you choose to do a Pop Sonnet, you only need to do the one sonnet since it is a more difficult assignment
Concrete/Blackout Poem:
- Based on the text handed out in class
- Visual poem: black out words to create a poem
- you can also look at blacking out words to come up with a visual form for your poem
- no adding of words but you are allowed to draw on the page to enhance your poem
Title Poem:
- each student is assigned a section of books in the LC
- come up with a poem based on the titles
- no cutting or taking words…you must use the whole title
- you must use at least 10 titles
- you may add visuals/drawings to enhance your poem
Texting Couplets:
- come up with couplets that are “texted” to and from between two people
- text should be rhyming couplets and have rhythm
- at least 5 exchanges
- must be a conversation thread
- format needs to be what you would see on a phone when texting
- you may not add any visuals to the poem except maybe standard emojis that are available on a phone
Pop Sonnet:
- pick a popular song (safe language please)
- based on the lyrics…come up with a Shakespearean sonnet – remember it is very structured
- use your best Shakespearean vocabulary!
- you should attach a copy of the original lyrics (since I may not know the song)
You will have Friday’s class to work on it as well.
It will be due Friday, March 11th at the end of class
