Hi Colleagues,

I’m Linda Kwan, your Vancouver School Board Learning Technologies Mentor.

If you’re already a blogger you’ll soon realize that your self-hosted site behaves quite differently than this one on our VSB server.  On this blog I hope to help you navigate the whimsical twists and turns that will surely engage you in its idiosyncracies.

If you’re new to blogging, nevermind.  Just join me in learning how to make good use of this free VSB-hosted site so you can make your workflow a little bit easier and your learners way impressed with your tech savviness.

Today, as a part-time Learning Technologies Mentor on my district days and a part-time English teacher on my teaching days, I have the best of both worlds.  I am privileged to be able to visit elementary and secondary schools throughout our district to mentor and collaborate with teachers, staff and students about how Learning Technologies can help to Engage our learners and deepen learning.  Our Learning Tech Mentors’ site is i3.vsb.bc.ca

My personal educational reflections blog is Reflections from the Hill.  My class wikispace is UHill English

This blog, INQUIRING MINDS,  is a collection of posts that I hope will Inspire you to try new things, prompt you to Inquire about what you can do differently to engage your learners and show how you can take action and Innovate to deepen learning despite our sometimes not-so-21st-century classroom environments.

Stay tuned for student and teacher exemplars of neat blogs and wikis from around our district.

  1. Hi Linda, Great idea (this blog.) Thanks for this and all the other innovative and helpful tech support work you do!

  2. Hi Linda,

I am trying to set up my VSB blog but am having trouble. I hope you can help or at least direct me to someone who can!

I previously had my own wordpress blog I used for the classroom before I found out about the VSB site. I am trying to import my blog but it keeps telling me I need to update my importer. Will I be able to import my old blog? If so, how can I do it?

  3. Hi Michelle,
    sorry for the late reply.
    I’ve been on vacation!
Nothing is that easy with the VSB blog, but the best person to help you would be through accessing the blog team through the Helpdesk. There are severe limitations on the VSB blog compared to your own wordpress blog. It will have way less in terms of functionality than you’re used to and things are done differently here too.

If you want more control over what goes on your wordpress blog, I’d say stick with your old platform. If you are okay with losing some functionality, then you can try to move it to the VSB one. In that case, in your subject line, type “VSB BLOG” and then put in your request.

    good luck.
