SS 9 – Inquiry Project (Causes and Consequences) – Ms. Proudfoot

Welcome to the class page for Ms. Proudfoot’s SS 9 classes! For this assignment you will be choosing and researching a challenge/event in the world and looking how it has shaped society. In particular, this assignment is about looking at the causes of a challenge/event and what the consequences were or are. We are looking forward to your final product, which will be in the form of a Prezi or a powerpoint.

This page has important information on it, such as copies of handouts, web links and suggestions for databases for research, and information about Works Cited. Please make sure it is your starting point for research. We may also post other information you may need for you assignment, so check back regularly.

Remember to start by using one of the databases provided by the VSB. You can click HERE to get to the database page, or click on the Webcat Library Catalogue link in the menu above. You may find that Global Issues in Context is very helpful. If you need a reminder of the user name and password please ask one of the Teacher-Librarians.

Also, remember to check the online catalogue to see what books we have available here in the Library Learning Commons.

Here are some links that you may find very helpful for your research. Start by looking at these as opposed to just “Googling”. For each site, spend some time clicking on the links on the menu bar (top and sides). All of these sites have a lot of very valuable information. In particular, make sure to read the “About Us” or “Who we are” sections on each website to get the background on the organization; it’s purpose and what role it plays in global, national and local issues.

Also, remember that it is very important to keep track of all the sources you use for your research. We encourage you to use Easybib for your Works Cited, and to register for an account if you have not done so already. You must cite all pictures as well.
