SS 8 – Renaissance Project – Mr. Jakoy

Here is all the information you will need for your assignment that Mr. Jakoy handed out (just in case you left your copy at school!)

Remember that you need to use (and cite!) at least one book, one website, one encyclopedia and one database for this project. A suggestion for the database is to use Biography in Context (the link to our Digital Library is on the menu bar at the top of this page). The encyclopedia can be in print, or an online version (for eg. World Book). If you need the password for either of these wonderful resources, please ask one of the Teacher Librarians.

Here is a sample of a finished Works Cited Sample Works Cited. Remember to make sure the title is correct, that all the lines are double spaced, that the font is size 12 and Times New Roman, and that the second line of each citation is indented (Tab over once). You may copy and past the citation for information from World Book Online and from any article from Biography in Context. Remember to change the font and size if its different.

Put your name in the top right hand corner (you may hand write it) and print it off and hand in with your brochure. Please remember to ask if you have any questions!

For Block 2-3 only, you can use Easybib to help with your Works Cited. Remember, it is not perfect!! Check the guideline (MLA 7 Works Cited Handout) to make sure the citation has all the correct information. Also, to include images, the scanner is available in the library (it only works with computer #22). All the instructions are there. The photocopier is also available. Remember to keep track of where the images are from, and to include them in your Works Cited. If the image is a photograph, choose “Photograph” from “All 59 Options” on Easybib. You will have a choice of where the image is from; a book, a website or a database. Make sure to indicate the source. Once again, as always, please ask one of the Teacher Librarians if you need any help!!

If you decide to use Google Docs for your brochure, here is some information from eHow Tech  on how to use it (good info, however the ads are a little distracting).

Have fun!!
