Drawing Fruit!
Hi Parents,
In our last “InStill Life” class, we learned about Still Life. We’ve been painting Still Lifes (yes, it’s “Still Lifes” and not “Still Lives”) for a long time. The earliest examples come from Egyptian times, when a food was painted inside the Pharaoh’s tomb to provide food for the journey to the after-life.
We also looked at some Still Lifes from French impressionists, with particular attention to light, colour, shapes and shading. Here is an example from the French French Painter, Cezanne.
The kids then had a chance to sketch in pencil, playing with the light and shadow.
Our next step will be to turn our pizza boxes into canvases, and to start painting. Remember, kids need to bring a fruit or vegetable that is grown locally on Thursday, October 13.
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
