Indoor Track Meet 2011

Greenest City in the World by 2020

The City of Vancouver wants to be the Greenest City in the World by 2020 and my Digital Immersion students are going to help with the use of their iPad. Let’s start by doing research and getting background information.

Environmental Sustainability Project

The Digital Immersion Grade 8’s and I are building a Environmental Sustainability Project in partnership with the City of Vancouver, Apple Canada, and Cisco Systems.

We are very excited about the technology, but beyond the technology and the new tools (iPads) is the very real and fulfilling work of making a difference. This is how we should be teaching our students and helping them explore potential careers and interests through meaningful work. The City of Vancouver has an excellent reputation around the world as a green city. What we aim to do is either take something that already exist and make it better or better yet invent something new that we can call our own. Possibly an initiative that can be realized with a little time and a lot of hard work.

So far, I am loving the new cart, but getting apps on to 30 iPads is proving to be quite a labour intensive and time consuming task. I think Apple can do better with an Education version of iTunes or perhaps a third-party plugin that will allow for mass simultaneous syncs.

As a side note,  I love the Find My iPhone app. I can track every iPad through GPS and a map. If iPads go missing or is misplaced, I can track it and send a message and/or lock it out and/or wipe the data. This feature is available through MobileMe Free Account and is available for iPhones, iPod Touch, and iPads. I am going to invent a game for this feature. Now all the iPads need is a camera so I can use QR Codes.

Sorry folks, kids are sick…

I was going to do a photoshop demo but obvious can’t. Please work on your theme proposal and do some research. Find some images you would like to create.

Can ride with me.

DP 11/12 Low Visibility

My view in HDR with sun in the distance.

Trying to get some good shots from the top, but the visibility is still very low. I am hoping for some sunshine as it is absolutely amazing on a clear day.

Download this pan.zip file to your desktop and unzip it by double clicking it.

Start Photoshop. Click File > Click Automate > Browse files and play with the rest. Try Auto first and then experiment with the other options. Crop When finished.

Note: it may take a while to render – be patient!

Web 11/12 – Greetings from Sun Peaks!

Welcome Back!

I was going to post some video, but the visibility is pretty low here so all you get is fog. Perhaps, later today.

For the next two days, I would like you to do some research. I have attached a PDF file here. Download it and complete it. For today, I would like you to survey a school website in Vancouver eg. King George, Killarney, etc. Just one.

For next day, choose a site from another district (not in Vancouver or a Private School).

Open it in Acrobat and fill in using the typewriter tool.

When you get out into the real world and especially the business world – everything is paperless and the reasons are obvious…cost…portability and search.
