We complete units around Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Earth Sciences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">For a full overview of the curriculum, click <a href=\"https:\/\/curriculum.gov.bc.ca\/curriculum\/science\/8\/\">here<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">This year, we are shifting away from grading\u00a0 and are assessing students on the curricular competences using a four-level rubric: Emerging, Developing, Proficient, and Extending. Each assignment will be linked with specific curricular competencies and content. Students will be evaluated based on their proficiency and given formative feedback on how they can improve. The goal for the end of the year is to have all students\u00a0<strong>proficient\u00a0<\/strong>in the major curricular competencies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>For an overview of the competencies I will be evaluating for Sciences 8, you can see the following document: <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.vsb.bc.ca\/smussenden\/files\/2019\/10\/SBG-8.docx\">SBG 8<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">Evaluations of assignments for this course will be accessible via the <a href=\"http:\/\/go.vsb.bc.ca\/schools\/MyEdStudentFamilyPortalSupport\/AcctMgmt\/Pages\/AcctMgmt.aspx\">MyEd Student Family Portal.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">In accordance with current assessment practices at Kitsilano, students will be assigned a letter grade at the end of each term. This grade will be agreed upon between myself and the student in a short meeting before the end of term, after reviewing assignments, quizzes and tests done throughout the term.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">Your child will have brought home a syllabus to be signed at the start of the year.
