How many drops of water does a cotton ball absorb until it starts to “rain”? We decided to find out. We are experimenting with the condensation and precipitation stages of the water cycle.
We are learning about the components of the water cycle during Science class. Today’s experiment demonstrated condensation. We put a tray of ice over two boxes and waited. On the bottom of the ice tray water droplets started to appear. When the water vapor in the air is cooled, the water changed from a gas back to a liquid- condensation. The melted ice is not leaking through the tray. Water is always in the air.
Today is the first day of our science experiment. We are creating the water cycle in a bag. The bags are taped to one of the windows in our classroom. Over the next few days as the sun heats the water in the bag we hope to see evaporation, condensation, and precipitation.
We are learning about the water cycle during Science. Please ask your child to explain the terms evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection.
